Description
Located on the Western State Hospital Campus, the new Legal Offender Unit will provide a housing and treatment facility for 240 patients. The 165,000-square-foot masonry and brick veneer structure will include an activity center, classrooms, an exercise facility, conference space and administration offices.

Housing units contain patient rooms, a day room and dining facilities. The new facility greatly increases the ability of staff to diagnose, care for and treat adult patients referred from the courts. This facility also provides greater security for the staff, patients and surrounding community.

The Legal Offender Unit is being built in two phases with improvements being made to the surrounding site. The building construction will include 8-inch CMU exterior bearing walls with brick veneer. Interior partitions will be a combination of CMU and metal stud with gypsum wallboard.

Portions of the structure will be steel columns and beams, metal deck with concrete fill. The flat roof area will be a single-ply system with standing-seam metal roofing at the sloping portions. Hollow metal and solid-core wood doors are scheduled for interior spaces. Exterior windows will be aluminum or hollow metal depending on security requirements and locations.
