The National Association of Purchasing Management of Western Washington (NAPM-WW) honored the following winners at its annual awards banquet: Cal Barnard, T.C.I. Materials Management, Inc., was given the George A. Hawley Award; Bill Walker, city of Renton, and Pam Hogan, Progressive Networks, both received the Louis A. Menconi Award; and Terry Graham the Larry J. Crozier Award. NAPM-WW also announced its new officers for 1997-98: Yvette LaValle, AT & T Wireless, director of national affairs; Bruce Fitzgerald, T.C.I. Materials Management, Inc., president; Reissa Davis, ELDEC Corporation, first vice president; Theresa Dodge, AT & T Wireless, second vice president; Jim Miller, Northshore Utility District, secretary/treasurer. Wayne Balsiger, PACCAR; Terrie Laird, Microsoft; and Terry Rea have joined the association's board of directors for 1997-2000.
Questions.net, a new online marketing survey facility based in Seattle and owned by E-valuations Research, has hired Norman Brown as director of business development and Myshel Frenz as marketing specialist. Questions.net offers a broad, representative research sample on the Internet. The composition of the online audience appeals to companies selling leading edge products and services. Brown will focus on that sector.

Bellevue-based Data West has been selected from a field of 80 nominees and 11 finalists as the Emerging Business of the Year by the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce. In 1994, Data West created Courtlink, an on-line, real-time service providing access to over 400 federal, state and local court records nationwide. ConnexT, a Seattle-based provider of software products and services for electric, gas and water utilities has appointed Pamela Lesh as head of the company's Strategic Relationships team.

Seattle-based TechWave Inc., a digital commerce and content delivery company, announced its first online digital store, The Learning Center (http://www.TheLearningCenter.com). The Learning Center provides training content online with customized training solutions for corporations as well as individuals. The training courses are in software, technical, health and safety, and human resources. They can be delivered from the store in a variety of media, including the Internet, corporate Intranet, CD-ROM, video and books. Dwayne Walker is president and CEO of TechWave.

Redmond-based Spacelabs Medical, Inc. has purchased an interest in Tempus Software, Inc. of Jacksonville, Florida. With the investment, Spacelabs Medical will have worldwide rights to market Encompass, a patient scheduling system developed by Tempus used by hospitals, clinics, physician offices and home health providers.
The annual retail industry meeting, Retail '97, will be held June 17 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Seattle Sheraton Hotel & Towers, Metropolitan Ballroom, Third Floor. The cost is $55. Speakers this year include Wally Smith, president and CEO of REI, and Judy Dulcich, retail marketing manager at Microsoft. Also featured will be "retail roundtable" discussions by persons from Associated Grocers, Restaurants Unlimited, Starbucks Coffee Company and University Village. The event is sponsored by Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, Deloitte & Touche LLP, and the Washington Retail Association.
