Amy Pickering recently joined the Seattle-based marketing and public relations firm Firmani and Associates as an account executive. She previously served as director of marketing for a software-development and consulting firm.
As part of an industry-university partnership, The Boeing Co. has pledged over $600,000 over the next three years to provide Western Washington University's engineering technology department with upgraded student computer laboratories and computer-assisted engineering software.

Childhaven, a Seattle-based non-profit agency treating abused and neglected children, has received a $300,000 three-year donation from Seatle-based software company WRQ for the development therapies program. The program provides physical, occupational, speech, and cognitive therapy to children who do not qualify for state-subsidized therapy. WRQ, a long-time supporter of Childhaven, has given the agency almost $1 million dollars over the past five years.

Thom Walker has joined JPC Inc. as a senior project manager. He brings over 17 years of architectural experience to the firm including the design of medical and commercial office space. For 11 years Walker has served as managing principal and owner of his own firm, and his recent JPC clients include Humongous Entertainment and Microsoft Troon. Paula Vollmer was recently promoted to full-time manager of marketing services and special projects at JPC. Her assistance has contributed to several recent contract awards, including Microsoft building upgrades, Humongous Entertainment offices, and Meydenbauer Convention Center Office upgrades. Others recently hired include: Soonjung Vellek, interior designer; John Hibbard, intern architect; Denise Lierman, interior designer; Susan Kaufman, administrative assistant; Lisa Pirie, interior designer; Keith Simanton, furniture manager; and Sarah Douglas, interior designer.
Greg Maffei, chief financial officer of Microsoft, has been named to the Seattle Public Library Board of Trustees. Maffei is in charge of Microsoft's worldwide financial activities and oversees its investment portfolio. He was appointed by Seattle Mayor Paul Schell to a five-year term, replacing Lazelle Johnson. The board governs the Central Library, 22 branches, Mobile Services and the Washington Talking Book and Braille Library.

WinEstimator, a developer of accounting and estimating software for the construction industry, recently announced Phil Larson has been named vice president of the Estimating Department and Mark Jordheim has been promoted to leader of the Special Projects Group. Larson will be responsible for the refinement and enhancement of the company's estimating products. Jordheim will explore new software product market expansion opportunities.

MWW/Savitt, the West Coast office of The MWW Group, has hired Lisa J. Collins as senior account executive for the high-technology group and Ann Hedreen as senior account executive for the marketing communications group in the Seattle office. Collins most recently managed Seattle City Councilmember RIchard McIver's political campaign. Hedreen recently worked as a freelance video producer and writer.
Technical Communication Consultants, Inc. has moved to the Queen Anne Office Center, 1507 Queen Anne Ave. N., Suite 210. The women-owned business specializes in technical documentation, online help systems, hardware and software manuals, workflow analysis and training materials.
