Colby Africa was recently hired as development manager at Pacific Edge Software Inc., a Kirkland-based developer of knowledge management solutions for companies that manage by projects. Terri Inglis was recently promoted to customer care manager. Africa formerly served as technical product manager for Microsoft Project. Inglis formerly served as business manager.

Kensington

Mark Carpenter is one of the first independent developers in the area to invest in T-1 technology for a multi-family housing project. He is providing T-1 Internet access at his new Kensington Gate, a gated community in Tacoma. Residents will be able to surf the net on a 1,000-lane super highway compared to the congested 4-lane freeway that typical home dial-up Internet access provides, said Carpenter of Bellevue. "For large-scale developers, high-speed Internet access is not uncommon, but for an independent developer, it's forward thinking," said Craig Bloomfield, senior editor of Multi-Housing News.

Ken Sanders, partner and manager of informatiomn services for Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership, has been named by A/E/C Systems International as the winndr of the 1999 Ed Forrest Award for Excellence in Design/Construction Automation. Sanders developed the original software code behind ZGF's project specifid Web sites. He has been a featured speaker since 1988 at the annula A/E/C/ Systems national conference and trade show, and he has been featured in or written articles for national professional magazines.

Sparling

Michael B. Severns has been named director of health care technology at Sparling. Before joining Sparling, Stevens was director of facilities and technology for St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Ore., a facility that has received four national awards from te Environmental Protection agency for energy efficient measures and technologies. He served on the board of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) from 1994 to 1998. At Sparling, Severns is currently at work on Telehealth and technology consulting for the Providence General Medical Center in Everett.

Jim Pierce has joined Coffman Engineers and Coffman Construction Management to assist in business development. Thomas O. Moore has joined the firm as a communications consultant. His experience includes communications and systems experience for the design of fiber optic and copper infrastructure and network configuration for multi-building campus and multi-story office building projects. Ralph Leitner has re-joined the firm as a mechanical designer. Current projects include Eagle Hardware throughout the U.S., Microsoft Corporation, and AT&T. Paul Lee has joined Coffman as a structural designer. His current projects include the River Park Square Retail Center in Spokane ad St. Joseph's Medical Center in Tacoma.

Atmosphere Alliance joins Energy Outreach

OLYMPIA -- Atmosphere Alliance and Energy Outreach Center have merged to form a new organization called Climate Solutions. Based in Olympia, the new organization intends to combat global warming by promoting Northwest leadership in practical and profitable alternatives. The group will focus on public education regarding global warming; advocacy of policies to curb greenhouse gas emissions; promoting clean technologies and transportation; and providing access to practical opportunities in energy supply, transportation and building construction. Climate Solutions will issue its first report, "In Hot Water," in June. The report details the threats to the Northwest economy and quality of life posed by global warming.
