IA Interior Architects hired Chris Larson as project director in the Seattle office. Larson has been a designer in the Seattle area for more than 40 years. He has worked on corporate, civic, health care, hospitality, education and residential projects, and taught, lectured and published. His designs have been honored four times by the Seattle chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Art Kjos is taking a leave of absence from day-to-day participation in Clark/Kjos Architects to lead facilities planning at the University of Arkansas for medical sciences. The firm said the assignment will give it insight into how owners plan health care facilities. Kjos will remain active in the firm's management and in selecting projects. He is a founding principal and has led CKA's technical services, including engineered systems integration, code compliance, leadership and constructability quality control. He is a leader with the American Society of Healthcare Engineering and a fellow of the American Institute of Architects.

Sloan

Landau Associates hired Jamie Sloan as a staff scientist in its Tacoma office. In Portland, it promoted Donnel Malkemus to senior staff geologist and James Raspen to senior staff engineer. Sloan is in the permitting and compliance group. She holds a master's in environmental policy and management from the University of Denver and a bachelor's in environmental science from the University of Washington. Malkemus does field support and prepares reports for environmental and water-resource projects. Raspen manages stormwater permitting compliance projects and provides field support for environmental remediation and geotechnical investigations. Edmonds-based Landau Associates provides geotechnical and environmental engineering, remediation, permitting, and compliance services.

Quantum Consulting Engineers hired John Barry as project manager in the Seattle office and Teresa Archer as a CAD drafter. Barry has more than 23 years of experience on public and private projects, and recently worked in Arizona. Archer has 10-plus years of experience as a structural drafter.

Trindera Engineering, an electrical and control systems engineering firm with offices in Coeur d'Alene and Spokane, promoted Barbara Barker to principal. Barker has more than 25 years of experience in lighting design. She has been a project manager and helped position Trindera as a preferred provider in the commercial, municipal, industrial and automation markets. She will manage the commercial group, focusing on office, retail, K-12, higher education, medical and community sectors.

DCI Engineers promoted Mark Moorleghen, Bruce Zhong and Brent Robinson to principal and Scott Erickson, Phil Johnson and Darren Simpson to associate principal in its Seattle headquarters. Moorleghen has more than 34 years of experience on medical, office, commercial and industrial facilities, including Swedish Hospital's Issaquah Campus. Zhong has more than 22 years of structural engineering experience on commercial, retail, residential, institutional and industrial projects, including the Microsoft Advanta Office Commons in Bellevue. Robinson has more than 21 years of structural engineering experience on office, multifamily, tenant improvement and church projects, and managed The Neptune Apartments in Seattle. Erickson has 18 years of structural engineering experience with high-rise residential, hospitality and office tower design, and is working on the 36-story Madison Centre office building in Seattle. Johnson has 10 years of structural engineering experience with mixed-use, residential and office projects, and worked on The Bullitt Center in Seattle. Simpson has been the civil department manager for 10 years, and has more than 25 years of professional experience overall, with most of his Washington work in commercial development, permitting and construction. DCI is a civil and structural consulting firm, with offices also in Spokane; Portland and Eugene, Ore.; San Diego, Irvine and San Francisco, Calif.; Austin, Texas; and Anchorage.

Project Groundwork

Project Groundwork, a Wenatchee-based planning, engineering and landscape architecture firm, hired Mark S. Garff as a principal landscape architect in its new office in Seattle. Garff has 16 years of professional experience and previously managed the landscape architecture team at a Kirkland-based environmental consulting firm. His design work also includes parks, shoreline restoration and residential projects.

Shannon & Wilson

Shannon & Wilson appointed Stan Boyle to the new position of corporate technical director. He will find job candidates with geotechnical and earth science experience, and work with staff on technical issues. Boyle joined the firm in 1996 after seven years in heavy construction and five years doing research. He holds a Ph.D. in geotechnical engineering from the University of Washington, a master's in structural engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University and a bachelor's in civil engineering from the University of Vermont. Seattle-based Shannon & Wilson provides geotechnical and environmental consulting.

Buckland & Taylor

Buckland & Taylor appointed Scott Alexander as the Alberta practice lead, working in Edmonton. Alexander has 25 years of experience in research and design. He previously was manager of Aecom's bridge group in Edmonton and, before that, an associate professor at the University of Alberta. For the past eight years, he was structural lead for major bridges and tunnels for Edmonton's expanding LRT system. North Vancouver, B.C.-based Buckland & Taylor works with clients worldwide and has a Seattle office.
