Union contest highlights apprentices' skills

  • Five apprentices from Washington will compete next month for a chance to advance to an international competition for plumbers and pipe fitters.

    Winners from last year's UA state apprentice contest show off their plaques. They include, left to right, Justin Keller (HVAC/refrigeration winner), Travis Wolf (plumber) and Travis Watson (pipefitter).

    IT BEGINS WITH a grueling 16-hour contest and ends with a chance for international glory — or at least a nice gold ring.
