A look at the Bainbridge Island City Hall

The $5.5 million Bainbridge Island City Hall was designed by Miller/Hull Partnership with a number of green building features.

Multi-use space is emphasized to reduce the size of the facility, which houses five city departments. Outside, a reinforced turf system will serve as a public green during the week, a farmers' market location on the weekends and overflow parking for the nearby performing arts center.

The 24,000-square-foot building has one of the region's first installations of certified wood. Non- or low-toxic finishes are used throughout and a number of recycled-content materials are included such as insulation, drywall, acoustical tile and partitions. The exterior is painted fiber cement siding. Skylights and an open office plan make the most of natural light and ventilation.

The project team included: O'Brien & Co., environmental design consultant; Columbia Pacific Contractors, general contractor; Elmquist Associates, construction manager; Cascade Design Collaborative, planner and landscape architect; KPFF, structural engineer; SvR Design Co., civil engineer; The Greenbusch Group, mechanical engineer; Sparling, electrical engineer; and Myers Biodynamics, geotechnical engineer.
