Matt Ditty is the new director of business development at Portland-based EC Power Systems, where he is focusing on industrial engine sales. Ditty previously worked in sales and management for Southwest Products Corp. and Pacific Power Products, and served in the Marine Corps. EC Power Systems specializes in sales, service, rental and parts distribution of industrial power products in the western United States. It is a division of EC Co., a privately held Pacific Northwest electrical contractor.

David K. Menke has been named director of public safety and emergency management at Highline College. Menke spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy and has experience in law enforcement, public security and disaster preparedness.

Sommer B. Clement has joined Carney Badley Spellman as of counsel. Clement focuses on the construction industry.

Frazier

The Walsh Group hired Jay Frazier as project superintendent and Peter Hruska as project engineer for its Seattle office. Frazier is estimating the Sound Transit E320 and Operations & Maintenance Satellite Facility projects. He previously was a superintendent/general superintendent managing heavy civil infrastructure and light rail projects for Kiewit Bridge & Marine and Mowat Construction. Hruska is working on a hangar at JBLM. He is a recent graduate of Montana State University, and previously worked for a home remodeler in Bozeman, Montana.

Tigard, Oregon-based Pioneer Waterproofing hired Steve Parmentier as project manager in the Spokane/Inland Northwest Regional office. Parmentier is handling estimating, field supervision, quality control, scheduling, and relationship development with local contractors, architects and building owners. He has experience in building repair and maintenance. Pioneer specializes in building repair, restoration and maintenance.

Buendia

Ed Buendia has been appointed dean of the School of Educational Studies at University of Washington Bothell starting Aug. 1. He will replace current dean Bradley Portin. Buendia has been at the University of Utah at Salt Lake City since 1997, most recently as chair of the Department of Education, Culture and Society.




Seattle Public Schools

Seattle Public Schools hired James Bush as the school and community partnerships director. He will oversee partnerships with the city, Seattle Public Libraries and Seattle Housing Authority as well as community-based organizations. Bush was neighborhood programs manager for the city.

He negotiates purchase and sale agreements, leases, and other agreements, and counsels clients on residential and commercial property.

Kennedy Wilson buys Auburn apartments

The real estate investment company Kennedy Wilson said it purchased a 430-unit property in Auburn for $81 million. The company invested $19 million and secured a 10-year loan of $62.6 million through Freddie Mac at a fixed-rate of 3.63 percent to acquire Belara at Lakeland. It was built in 2006 on a 40-acre site in Lakeland Hills, a master-planned community, with a clubhouse, fitness center, outdoor pool and playground. The firm has an office in Seattle and is based in Beverly Hills, California.

City honors Bill Hobson

A section of Eastlake Avenue between Denny Way and Court Place has been re-named for Bill Hobson, the former executive director of DESC who died earlier this year. Hobson was the driving force behind 1811 Eastlake, an innovative project that houses 75 men and women with chronic alcohol addiction. It was controversial initially but has become a national model and has won multiple awards. The building has a new address: 1811 Bill Hobson Way. DESC provides permanent supportive housing to more than 1,200 tenants.

ULI Vancouver conference starts Friday

Urban Land Institute's Young Leaders Group Cascadia Regional Conference starts Friday in Vancouver with experts from across the region addressing current issues in development, urban design, planning and finance. The keynote speaker is Mark Gilbreath, founder and CEO of LiquidSpace and there will be a panel discussion about 21st Century Cascadia with Gabriel Grant, principal at Spectrum Development Solutions, on the panel. Tours include Vancouver's central business district, densification in the Cambie Corridor and a look at retrofitting suburbia with transit oriented development. Seattle Public Schools

Seattle Public Schools named Wyeth Jessee chief of student supports. Jessee will focus on implementing the Multi-Tiered System of Supports model, which is designed to accelerate academic and social/emotional learning.
