Lane Powell attorney Daniel Kittle has been selected to serve in the Association of Washington Business Institute's Leadership Washington Class of 2016. Leadership Washington is a nine-month leadership training program designed to expose participants to industrial and political issues.

A Contemporary Theatre

A Contemporary Theatre said incoming artistic director John Langs will oversee six plays in the mainstage season, plus two large-scale shows in ACTLab. He joined ACT as associate artistic director in 2013 and takes over as artistic director in January after Kurt Beattie's retirement.

State of Idaho

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter has announced that Jeff Sayer, director of the Idaho Department of Commerce, will step down at the end of the year.

Otter said in a prepared statement Friday that Sayer is resigning to pursue private business opportunities.

Sayer has been the department's chief since 2011.

During his tenure as commerce director, Sayer helped passed the tax reimbursement incentive — a tax break designed to lure businesses to expand in Idaho. Otter's office says it will accept applications for the now open position until Nov. 1.

Abbott Construction

Jepsen

The Portland office of Abbott Construction hired Robert Jepsen as regional director. Jepsen is responsible for all business matters in the office. Prior to joining Abbott, Jepsen was a project engineer, project manager and senior project manager at several construction companies in the Portland and Seattle areas. Abbott also has offices in Seattle and Los Angeles.

University of Washington

The University of Washington's Department of Construction Management has teamed with Skanska to offer a new BIM (building information modeling) certificate program taught by Carrie Sturts Dossick, associate professor of building management and director of the Center for Education in Construction Research, and Mike Choquette, virtual design and construction director at Skanska. The 11-week online program began Sept. 29 and is open to UW students and industry professionals.

Orion Equipment

Seattle-based Orion Equipment bought Pacific Coast Equipment in Vancouver from Ohio-based Company Wrench Ltd. The acquisition allows Orion to provide and expand equipment rental, new and used equipment sales, service and support to the Vancouver-Portland market, as well as southern Washington and all of Oregon. Orion plans to retain all PCE employees.

NAWIC

The National Association of Women in Construction recent installed its new officers and board members, including Ruth Fritts of the Boise Chapter as Pacific Northwest Region director. Fritts is serving a two-year term. She is the risk management and environmental health and safety director for McAlvain Group of Companies in Boise, Idaho.

Johnson

Skagit Bank has hired Ken Johnson as president and chief operating officer. Johnson has more than 30 years of banking experience, most recently as the East Region president of Chemical Financial Corp. in Midland, Michigan. He will oversee operations for Skagit Bank from its main office in Burlington. Skagit Bank provides commercial lending, business and personal banking services, with offices in Skagit, Snohomish, Whatcom and King counties.

Novinium

Novinium said Mark Newton, Ph.D., is the new vice president of engineering, with over 20 years of experience in technology, research, operations, and corporate leadership. Newton spent more than 17 years at W.L. Gore & Associates working on Gore-Tex and other products. Novinium offers tech solutions to infrastructure problems designed to save energy and reduce greenhouse gases by extending the life of cable.
