Sound Transit

Julie Honeywell has joined Sound Transit as chief human resources officer. She previously held the same position at Paladino and Co., a building and sustainability consulting firm, and also worked for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt publishing firm and Honeywell.

DASH Platform

Bellevue-based DASH Platform, which makes software for sports facilities and recreational programming, has a new CEO: Tim Bauman. He is a 30-year IT veteran. The company plans to expand into the parks and recreation market. DASH Platform was developed 15 years ago by Don Crowe, CEO of Arena Sports in Redmond. Bauman has worked at WRQ, Oracle and Unisys Public Sector.

The Museum of Flight

The Museum of Flight promoted Vice President and CFO Matthew B. Hayes to a newly created job: executive vice president. Hayes started at MOF in 2000 as a volunteer. He will handle day-to-day operations. Hayes has worked at Deloitte and Touche, and Alliance for Education, and joined MOF as an employee in 2005.

Spoken Communications

Spoken Communications, a Seattle firm focused on customer engagement and contact center services, named Jan Wiersma chief cloud officer. Wiersma has 15 years of experience, and was vice president of global cloud services at SDL. Spoken uses AI to help contact centers analyze and respond to customer conversations.

NAI Puget Sound Properties

NAI has acquired Shephard Commercial Real Estate. Founded 11 years ago by Lee Shephard, it manages 15 Seattle properties with over 1.2 million square feet of office, industrial and retail space. NAI bills itself as the largest locally owned commercial real estate brokerage firm operating solely in the Puget Sound region. It has 42 brokers in three offices. Company President Scott Coombs said, “Great management services can significantly enhance the value of a real estate asset, and Lee and his team have been doing this successfully for over 30 years.”

Barrientos takes on a partner

Maria Barrientos has a taken on a partner, Kristin Neil Ryan, and changed the name of her company to Barrientos + Ryan. A new website is expected soon. Ryan previously was with Jonathan Rose Companies, and has developed and managed property in Portland, Berkeley and Seattle, where she is now based. She also worked on schools and multifamily housing in New York with Civic Builders and The Dermot Co. Ryan has degrees from Columbia and Yale. Barrientos' current projects include a 54-unit complex in Pioneer Square called The Cannery, 75 units in Lower Queen Anne and 84 units in the University District. Her firm is also consulting on adding 300 housing units to the Pacific Tower campus and is in the early stages of planning apartments on Teatro ZinZanni's site opposite Seattle Center. TZZ is leaving this month. The new owner of the site is Washington Holdings, which wants to build between 275 and 350 units, likely in an eight-story building.

Security Properties

Security Properties said it paid $27.2 million for an apartment complex in Las Vegas. The 342-unit Orchard Club was developed in 2001 as affordable housing. JLL Capital Markets helped finance the deal. Security Properties owns about 1,400 units in and around Las Vegas. In a statement, the company's Bryon Gongaware said, “This acquisition increases our already strong investment in the Las Vegas market, and allows us to preserve this high-quality affordable housing community for the next 15 years with energy efficiency upgrades and capital investment.” Orchard Club is income-restricted through 2032. It will be managed by Madrona Ridge Residential, an affiliate of Security Properties.

Pam Gunther joined Seattle-based Hart Crowser as principal ecologist and natural resources managing principal. Gunther's 25 years of experience includes environmental assessments and impact statements, habitat conservation plans, and documentation for threatened and endangered species. She supported preparation of the environmental assessment for the 2016-2017 Puget Sound harvest list of agreed fisheries. Hart Crowser is an engineering, science, and consulting firm.

Seattle-based Meng Analysis promoted John Boatman, Sarah Partap and Douglas Smith to equity principal. Boatman leads the cost estimating practice and value analysis studies, and oversees Facility Condition Assessment projects. He has 25 years of experience as a construction estimator, consultant, owner and designer. Partap leads the business operations and project management teams. She has managed large facility condition assessment projects for Thurston County, the City of Tacoma and Puget Sound Energy. Smith leads technical engineering consulting services, including facility commissioning, performance engineering and assessment. He has won awards from ASHRAE and the Washington Society of Professional Engineers. Meng offers quality and cost performance consulting.

In Seattle, BHC Consultants hired Gina Franco as a project engineer and Nate Palmatier as a senior electrical engineer. Franco has 10 years of civil engineering experience on projects that include water resources, drainage, wastewater, storm and sanitary sewer design, and filed inspection and analysis. Palmatier has 14 years of electrical engineering experience focused on wastewater and water projects, and a background in instrumentation and controls projects from design to construction closeout. BHC is a municipal services consulting firm, with an office also in Tacoma.

Reis

Parsons, an engineering services firm, hired Richard Reis as vice president and Northwest regional manager of the infrastructure division, which focuses on bridges, highways and transit systems. Reis oversees operations. He has over 35 years of experience in civil and environmental engineering, construction and project management, with clients that have included the Washington Department of Transportation and Amazon.com.

The Watershed Co. of Kirkland hired Logan McClish as a water resources specialist, and Tess Brandon with the firm has become a certified planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners. McClish evaluates the effects of land development on water resources and designs ecologically-friendly solutions. He is working on Foothills Trail with King County Parks. Brandon has five years of planning experience. She is assisting Port of Seattle projects along the Duwamish River. Watershed provides natural resources assessment, mitigation and restoration design, environmental planning and permitting, arborist and landscape architecture services.

In Bothell, SLR International Corp. hired Nicholas Schnee and John McCorkle as principals. Schnee will be on the mining services team. He has consulting experience in environmental management systems, auditing, and program development, with a specialty in the mining and industrial sectors. McCorkle has experience in due diligence, environmental assessment and remediation, claim and litigation support and hazardous materials compliance. SLR Consulting is a UK based environmental and advisory consultancy, with its U.S. operations based in Bothell.

In Spokane, Parametrix hired Roger Flint as chief operating officer and Alex Sylvain as a senior engineer. Flint has 30 years of experience in infrastructure development and public works, transportation, and utility operations. He was Northwest geographic manager for transportation at CH2M Hill. He will lead regional operational units and company programs, and do business development. Sylvain has 12 years of experience as a civil engineer. He will manage and design water, wastewater, community building and transportation projects. He was with AECOM. Parametrix provides transportation, natural resources, community building, water solutions, and environmental engineering and science services.

Fife-based BCE Engineers promoted Dave Newkirk to associate. Newkirk has been with the firm for two years as director of business development. BCE is a mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering firm.

Anderson Krygier

Portland-based Anderson Krygier promoted Michael Yun to associate principal. Yun was hired in 2015. He is leading the ecological analysis practice and has major roles in the landscape architecture practice. His work includes the Smith Rock capacity assessment for Oregon Parks and Restoration District. He has worked at Vigil-Agrimis (now ESA) and at EDAW AECOM.

Lane Powell

Lane Powell attorneys David W. Howenstine, Kristin Beneski and Ruth S. Lee Johnson have been appointed to the Leadership Council for Legal Diversity Fellows and Pathfinders program. Howenstine is a member of the 2017 class of Fellows, and Beneski and Johnson are members of the 2017 class of Pathfinders. The LCLD works to increase diversity in the legal profession.

Washington State University

Phil Weiler, a strategic communications expert with more than 26 years of experience, has been named vice president for marketing and communication at Washington State University. He has worked in higher education, the corporate sector and government, and has directed marketing and brand management at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and worked in communications for the University of Oregon. John Gardner, who has been vice president for both the WSU Foundation and University Communications, will now be vice president and CEO of the foundation.
