Phillips Burgess

Phillips Burgess said Managing Partner Heather Burgess was chosen as a 2017 Boss of the Year honoree by Thurston County Chamber, along with Jim Larson from Morningside and Dave Nickerson of Tumwater Valley Golf Course. The award honors leaders for innovation, communication, vision and performance. Nominations are submitted by employees. Saint Martin's University business students help interview finalists and gather data for the selection committee.

Washington Federal said that effective Jan. 1 Michelle Coons will lead the New Mexico territory as senior vice president and regional president, replacing Bill Synnamon, who is retiring. Coons will maintain offices in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Washington Federal operates 237 branches in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Texas, Nevada and New Mexico.

Juno Therapeutics

Juno Therapeutics, a Seattle biopharmaceutical company developing immunotherapies for treating cancer, named Ann L. Lee, Ph.D., executive vice president of technical operations. Dr. Patrick Y. Yang will assume the role of executive vice president and senior advisor to the CEO. Both will report to Hans Bishop, president and CEO. Lee held senior positions at RocheGenentech and Merck & Co.

Washington Association of County Officials

The Washington Association of County Officials elected Yakima County Treasurer Ilene Thomson as president and elected three trustees to the board: Snohomish County Assessor Linda Hjelle, Mason County Treasurer Lisa Frazier and San Juan County Auditor Milene Henley. Lewis County Assessor Dianne Dorey will take over as vice president; while former Secretary/Treasuer, Kittitas County Auditor Jerry Pettit will become second vice president of the organization. Kittitas County Prosecutor Greg Zempel was elected secretary/treasurer.

Nexus now 90 percent pre-sold

Following a recent sales event, when condo buyers actually camped on the sidewalk, Realogics Sotheby's International Realty says that the Nexus condominium — now under construction in the Denny Triangle — is 90 percent pre-sold. RSIR is marketing the project for Vancouver, B.C.-based Burrard Group. Dean Jones of RSIR said all 28 City Suites units recently sold for between $340,950 and $667,950, some without parking spaces, which can be separately purchased for $75,000. The suites are a mix of studios and urban one-bedrooms, and range from 354 to 498 square feet. “It felt like Black Friday, except it was a Saturday, and these are condos,” said Smith. “Our sales success demonstrates the pent-up demand for efficiently scaled and attainably priced new condominiums in downtown Seattle.” Designed by Weber Thompson and being constructed by Skanska, the 389-unit, 41-story Nexus is expected to open in 2020.

ISRD board members named

The International Special Review District has announced the results of the board member election held on Tuesday, November 21. Joining the board, which oversees the Chinatown-International District and smaller National Historic District within it, are David Leong, Russ Williams and Tom Cheng. The ISRD was formed in 1973. Terms for the new board members start in December.

Opus Bank announced its West Coast Commercial Banking team has hired three more senior bankers. Duncan Hughes, a 12-year banking veteran, joined managing director and senior client manager based in the Los Angeles region. Christopher Patterson, a 12-year banking veteran, is managing director and senior client manager based in Orange County. Gregg Marsicano, a 32-year banking and finance veteran, is managing director of asset-based lending in the Pacific Northwest. Marsicano was with PNC Business Credit in the Pacific Northwest.

Stacy Edwards of Seattle has opened a Gymguyz operation in Seattle. The mobile personal training company brings equipment, coaches and workouts to clients of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.

Structural engineering firm Cary Kopczynski & Co. promoted Joel Kipple to project manager and Allison Tran to executive assistant/HR specialist; and hired Anthony Trgovcich and Candice McCouch as project manager/senior design engineer. Kipple has over 11 years of structural engineering experience, from houses to towers. His current projects include 14th & Alice Apartments in Oakland, California. Tran will participate with senior management in tasks and continue with her role in HR. Trgovcich has four years of experience on projects, including UC Berkeley student housing. He working on 1721 Webster, a 240-foot residential tower in Oakland. McCouch has over 17 years of experience as a structural engineer. She has worked on retail, government, school, adaptive re-use and residential projects. She is working on 111 South Peoria in Chicago, and is based in that city. The others are based in Bellevue.

In Edmonds, CG Engineering hired Taylor Fleming as a civil design engineer, Brianna Bliven as an administrative assistant, Nick Lungstrom and Michaela Burr as structural design engineers, and James Poirier, Jake Giovannoni and Aron De Los Angeles as AutoCAD drafters. Also, it promoted Joe Galusha to associate principal. Galusha has been a structural engineer and project manager for some of the firm's largest projects, including multifamily, senior and affordable housing, wireless telecom and infrastructure. Fleming, Lungstrom and Burr are engineers in training.

Bremerton engineering firm Art Anderson Associates hired Joseph Kennedy as a naval architect in the marine division. Kennedy holds a naval architecture and marine engineering degree from the University of New Orleans. He has been a US Navy hull technician and a licensed fisherman, and did maintenance during shipyard availabilities.

In Anchorage, Stantec hired Adam Leggett as the Alaska Native program manager, focusing on developing business relationships with Alaska Native corporations and organizations. Leggett has 10 years of experience working for Alaska businesses, including oil and gas companies, and Alaska Native businesses. Stantec provides engineering, architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, surveying, environmental sciences, construction services, project management and project economics.

The Blueline Group recently hired Taylor Brown as an engineer-in-training. Brown has a bachelor's in civil engineering from Saint Martin's University. Blueline provides civil engineering and land use planning.
