Simon is Colliers Rising Star

Colliers International gave Dylan Simon its Rising Star Award. Simon received the national award at Colliers' annual Americas Conference, which was attended by more than 1,500 people from 22 countries. He set a production record as a rookie in the Puget Sound market and blogs at dylansimon.com about apartment sales, development and markets. Before joining Colliers, Simon practiced law for nine years and worked as a real estate investor and developer.

SHA gets 2 new commissioners

Zachary Pullin and Jermaine Smiley have been appointed to Seattle Housing Authority's Board of Commissioners. The seven-member board oversees policies and approves the budget. Commissioners also hire the executive director, a position currently held by Andrew Lofton. Commissioners are appointed to four-year terms by the mayor and confirmed by City Council. Pullin and Smiley both lived in public housing growing up. Pullin works in communications for Service Employees International Union. Smiley is an organizer at Laborers' Local 242 and executive director of an affordable housing nonprofit.

Tacoma broker attends CCIM academy

Michael Armanious, managing director at KW Commercial in Tacoma, was one of 15 Certified Commercial Investment Members who participated in the 2015 Jay W. Levine Leadership Development Academy in Scottsdale, Arizona. Chicago-based Certified Commercial Investment Member Institute said 10,000 people have earned the designation in 32 countries.

Kidder Mathews had added four more brokers in San Diego. Mickey Morera, James Duncan and Jeff Brown all specialize in sales and leasing for industrial and research and development properties. Jim Benson focuses on industrial properties. Morera, Duncan and Brown all come from Cushman & Wakefield, and Benson was last with Cassidy Turley/DTZ. Kidder Mathews' San Diego office now has eight brokers, and also manages 800,000 square feet of biotech space in La Jolla. Kidder Mathews has 450 employees in 10 offices in Washington, Oregon and California.

This year's challenge: Rainier Malt House

Students from the University of Washington and University of British Columbia will tackle redeveloping the original Rainier brewery's Malt House in Georgetown for NAIOP's 2015 Real Estate Challenge.

They will present their proposals at a breakfast event at 7:30 a.m. March 11 at Sheraton Seattle Hotel.
