May 19, 2000 The 2000 Washington Aggregates and Concrete Association Excellence Awards were given out at a banquet May 18, and once again local contractors, engineers and architects wowed the judges by their innovative and stylish uses of concrete in building projects. You'll find stories about advances in the use of concrete in the special section as well. A Bellevue firm is using a "buffed up" line of concrete blocks that are changing the way contractors are using concrete. And a story by Robert Berman of Northwest Quality Construction Alliance looks at ICF technology being used today. There's a great story about how all the concrete from the recently-imploded Kingdome is being recycled.
C O N T E N T SCaltite, an additive invented more than 40 years ago, has recently become a hit with builders and designers. From the Seahawks Parking/Exposition Hall project to a parking garage at Northgate mall, the material is being used throughout the Northwest.
