TACOMA — Quilters quilt and painters paint, but some fabric artists do both — and more. You can see their work in a new exhibit of this distinctive American art form at the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma.
Lynette Miller of the Washington State Historical Society curated the exhibit called “Cutting Edge: Art Quilts of Washington.” She said quilting can be an artistic expression just like painting or sculpting.
Quilt artists today may use sewing machines, but they also use computers, printers, paint, beads, metal and found objects.
The juried show has historic quilts as well as pieces by members of the Contemporary QuiltArt Association.
The show opens April 16 and runs through Aug. 21 at 1911 Pacific Ave.
