Port of Tacoma

The Port of Tacoma recently appointed Michael Adams as chief engineer/director of engineering. He will direct planning, design and construction of all major port projects. Adams was operations director of Parsons Brinckerhoff Programme Management. Adams retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1995, previously serving as director of public works for the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, and program manager for North Atlantic Treaty Organization Allied Forces South in Naples, Italy.

Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle

The Key Foundation has donated $50,000 to the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle for development of the Urban League Village, a $17 million renovation project at the historic Colman School in Rainier Valley. The project will transform the 1909 school to provide cultural, recreational and economic opportunities to the community. The facility will house an African-American museum, office space and affordable housing.

Mackie Design

Mackie Design named Robert A. McDonald executive vice president, engineering and product development. McDonald previously was principal of his own management consulting firm, R.A. McDonald Co., during which time he served as CEO of TimeLine of San Mateo, Calif. Mackie Design, based in Woodinville, designs and manufactures professional audio equipment.

Abossein

Abossein Engineering's Alexander V. Abossein received his electrical professional engineering license, in addition to the mechanical and fire protection engineering licenses he holds. He is among the few engineers in the U.S. with a triple license.

Abossein Engineering provides engineering services for commercial, institutional and light industrial projects along the West Coast and plans to add civil engineering services in the near future.

Parametrix

Robert Murray, Tony Abou-Rached and Dianna Lovelace recently joined Parametrix in Sumner, increasing the firm’s structural engineering capabilities. Murray and Rached will be responsible for project execution and business development in existing and expanding market locations. Lovelace will serve as project coordinator providing communication coordination and deliverable execution.

Murray has 29 years of professional experience in every aspect of structural and bridge related projects including bridge inspection, design, rehabilitation, load rating and analysis, seismic retrofit design and maintenance programs. In addition, he has served as on-site contractor liaison managing on-site engineering and construction.

Rached has 14 years experience in design, inspection and seismic retrofit of transportation structures. He has a strong knowledge of the current codes, practices and techniques involving seismic design and analysis. Rached has been responsible for numerous WSDOT, Cal-Trans and federal projects.

Murray and Rached have provided structural design for award-winning projects both in the U.S. and internationally. Local projects have included HOV lane expansions on Interstate 5, Interstate 90 corridor improvements, analysis and load rating of major structures, commuter rail, marine structures and replacement and seismic retrofit for local and federal agencies. Current project work includes the rehabilitation and restoration of an elevated light rail system in Jacksonsville, Fla.

Lovelace has five years experience as a project coordinator supporting bridge and structural engineering projects. She has been instrumental in overseeing project execution and communication in support of these projects. Lovelace is also responsible for marketing and business development.

CG Engineering

Melissa McKenry has joined the staff of CG Engineering in Edmonds. She will take on the tasks of structural engineer for a multitude of projects, including renovation of the oceanography pier at the University of Washington.

Perteet

Janet Prichard has joined Everett's Perteet Engineering as director of marketing and business development. Prichard brings 20 years of experience in marketing, public communications and business development for engineering firms and other service providers.

Prichard was public relations director for Pacific Lutheran University for 11 years. She also previously operated a public relations and marketing firm.

Peterson

Peterson Consulting Engineers recently added Brant Schweikl as project manager. Schweikl has 14 years experience in project management, civil design and development related services. His responsibilities include planning, feasibility analysis, conceptual and detailed design, hydraulic analysis, permitting and construction monitoring for commercial, residential, industrial and transportation related projects.

T·H·A

Thomas Hacker and Associates Architects, a Portland firm nationally recognized for the design of educational buildings, libraries, museums and other public buildings, has changed its name to Thomas Hacker Architects Inc. and added several staff members.

Lisa A. Christie joined T·H·A in April, working with the design team for the Science Building at Portland Community College's Rock Creek Campus. Currently, Christie serves on the design team for the University of Oregon James F. Miller Theater project.

Abigail Fowle also joined T·H·A in April and was assigned to the team responsible for the firm's relocation to its new studio in the Balfour-Guthrie Building at 733 S.W. Oak St., in Portland. During this time, she was also involved in presentation preparation for the University of Oregon Miller Theater project and the University of Idaho Education and Performance Facility at the Lionel Hampton Center. Her current work for T·H·A includes assisting the design team for the Spokane Academic Center for Washington State University.

Mark B. Perepelitza is a licensed architect who joined T·H·A in May. Perepelitza has been involved with a variety of building types including academic and civic assembly buildings, retail and residential projects. Perepelitza's current work with T·H·A includes serving on the design team for the Rock Creek Campus expansion and renovation project for Portland Community College, specifically with the new Science Building and overall campus site planning issues.

Jake C. Freauff also joined T·H·A in May. Freauff has assisted in presentation preparation for the new Humanities and Social Sciences Building for the University of California, Santa Cruz, and will be assigned to assist the design team on the Spokane Academic Center for Washington State University or the Classroom and Office Building for the University of California, one of three buildings planned for the University's new campus in Merced
