Aspect Consulting promoted
Owen Reese to associate water resources engineer. Reese helps Puget Sound-area industrial and public sector clients with stormwater management. He is working on several stormwater designs for the aggregate mining industry and assisting the Port of Seattle with NPDES permit compliance.
Helix Design Group hired
Emily Wold and
Jason Lam. Wold has experience in educational, hospitality, commercial and historic preservation projects. She supports both the architectural and interior design departments at Helix, where her assignments include commercial, retail and military projects design. Lam has 15 years of graphic design experience, with several years preparing graphic and sign designs for the hospitality industry. He was also the art director for the National Football League for two years. His current assignment includes preparation of brochures and other promotional materials.
ORB Architects hired two project architects to meet the increasing need in its military projects division.
Bob Monson, with 39 years of experience, 34 of them with the U.S. Navy and Corps of Engineers, has a focus on design and quality assurance.
Daniel Brooks joined as an intern architect and project manager. Brooks past projects include work for Albertson's, Jack in the Box, McDonald's and Starbucks. Brooks also has experience working on HUD multi-family residential and assisted-living facilities in Washington and Oregon.
Harmsen & Associates named
Bill Goodwin and
Robert Cray to its board of directors. Goodwin has been elected chairman of the board and Cray will serve as a director-at-large.
Doug Slager will continue as president and CEO. Goodwin has 33 years of civil engineering experience with private and public clients. Cray has 42 years of land surveying experience with private and public clients. Harmsen & Associates is a 60-person civil engineering, land surveying, landscape architecture and land use planning firm, with offices in Monroe and Oak Harbor.
Weber Thompson hired senior project manager
Steve Johnston to join its large projects team, with a focus on commercial/office projects. Johnston has more than 30 years of experience managing commercial and mixed-use projects in the Pacific Northwest. He spent 26 years with Curtis Beattie and Associates, where he worked on Fifth and Yesler, 600 Elliott, Metropolitan Park North and Sterling Park Plaza.
Abossein Engineering hired Josef Valenta as project manager of its new civil engineering division. Valenta has an extensive background in civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering, including residential, commercial and mixed-use, and transportation work for WSDOT, ODOT and CalTrans.
Hart Crowser hired five new staff members. New Seattle employees are Kunal Shah, Carl Ulberg and Vanessa Pepoy. Shah, a geotechnical engineer, is working on projects that require slope stability analyses and foundation design for commercial developments. Ulberg, a field geologist, has a strong background in seismic studies. He has performed field work at several new construction projects in Seattle, including Starbucks, Terminal 91, the Interbay Urban Center and University Village. Pepoy is an environmental scientist. She is conducting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, assisting with water monitoring and bioremediation at former dry cleaning sites, and performing soil sampling in the South Lake Union area. The firm also hired Brandon Jensen in its Edmonds office and Troy Fowler in its Portland office. Jensen is a biologist with experience in water quality and fish health analyses. He is working on eel grass restoration projects in Snohomish and Whatcom Counties, freshwater stream habitat evaluations in Alaska, and habitat monitoring in Cook Inlet. Fowler is a biochemist with a background in bioremediation and chemical oxidation for property contaminated with solvents, hydrocarbons, and metals.

Mahlum Architects hired
Pierce McVey as an associate principal working primarily in the firm’s healthcare studio. McVey has more than 25 years of experience and is working on the new Swedish hospital in Issaquah. McVey previously worked as a senior associate and project designer at Mithun Architects. His past projects include the Tolt Treatment Facility in Carnation, an expansion at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup and the Washington Correction Center for Women.
CDi Engineers hired
Rick Grove, Deborah Agner and
Micah Brewer. Grove is a professional mechanical engineer with experience in HVAC and plumbing systems design and expertise in construction administration. He is working on Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle and MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup. Grove received a 2008 ASHRAE Technology Award for his work on the Firstenburg Community Center in Vancouver. Agner has more than 13 years experience in the mechanical engineering field. Agner’s expertise includes design of mechanical HVAC systems using 2D and 3D modeling capabilities in AutoCAD and Microstation, and providing load calculations for HVAC systems. She is working on a major high school renovation project in Oak Harbor. Brewer is working on the high school renovation project in Oak Harbor and Legacy Emanuel Children’s Hospital in Portland.

Steve Spencer as construction administrator,
Johanna Schorr as an architect and project manager and
Robin Rucker as a project administrator. Spencer has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare and technology-related construction and major renovation projects. Prior to joining Clark/Kjos, Spencer was director of facilities at Grande Ronde Hospital. He is working on the new Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup. Schorr has more than 20 years of experience and strong skills in lighting design, project management and construction administration. Schorr won the Priest Award for Architectural Excellence at the University of Washington. Rucker is also working on the Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup.

Harpreet Sanghera as Computer Aided Drafting designer. Sanghera has more than eight years of experience with Puget Sound firms as a CAD Designer. She is working on Agua Caliente Cultural Museum in Palm Springs, Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Microsoft projects in Redmond and the Experience Music Project lighting revision project.

Hazard has seven years of experience in marketing and communications for professional service firms.
