Rushing hired
Gaurav Mehta as a senior energy analyst and
Shane Reimer as a mechanical project engineer. Before joining the building modeling group at Rushing, Mehta worked as a green building consultant. He is providing building modeling services for Seattle University's new fitness center and code compliance calculations for the Othello high-rise condominium in Seattle. Reimer is working on the Fairview Research Facility, Seattle University's new Alumni & Admissions building, and the Olive 8 high-rise mixed-use building.
BCRA hired
Mary Valmonte as senior project manager and health care planner. Valmonte has 19 years of experience in the planning, architecture and interior design of medical facilities, including Swedish Medical Center, Central Washington Hospital, and the Department of Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Healthcare System.
Sparling promoted
Jack Glover to associate,
Sandy Peron to marketing communications manager and
Lindsey Gilmore to project manager. Glover has been with Sparling for more than 12 years. He specializes in management and design of electrical systems projects for healthcare facilities. He is managing projects for Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee and Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Peron will be responsible for analyzing strategic business and marketing objectives, and training staff. Gilmore came to Sparling six years ago and her recent projects include the Lincoln Square Office Tower, Bellevue Place Hyatt, Microsoft tenant improvements at Lincoln Square and Sacred Heart Medical Center RiverBend Campus in Springfield, Ore. She is managing the Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital Children's Village and two tenant improvements in Seattle.
Olympic Associates promoted 11 employees.

Sparling hired four recent electrical engineering graduates as electrical project designers. Prior to joining Sparling,
Ryan Parfait was a contract engineer for Boeing where he worked to develop electrical and electronic hardware for airplane laboratory test systems. At Sparling, he has provided electrical design for several remodel and upgrade projects at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, as well as Valley Medical Center in Renton.
Paul Erskine previously worked on projects at Nordstrom and local school districts. At Sparling, he has supported a number of commercial projects for Amazon.com, REI and Microsoft.
Matthew Bailey interned as a project designer with Sparling for two summers before being hired as a full-time employee. He is providing design for several military projects, including Fort Lewis Medical/Dental Clinic and Naval Air Station Whidbey Island Washrack and Hangar 5.
Murray McKinney Jr. interned as a project designer for Sparling for three summers before he graduated. He has provided electrical design for Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, Swedish Orthopedic Institute, Mount Baker Theatre and The Bravern.
BLRB Architects promoted three staff members.
Doug DuCharme, an educational facility architect, was promoted to senior associate. He has 29 years of planning and design experience and will head the Higher Education Studio at BLRB. DuCharme is project manager for Curtis High School Gymnasium replacement for University Place School District.
Ben Ferguson and
Gene LaVaque were promoted to associates. Ferguson joined BLRB in 2006. He will focus on public and commercial work. He is designer on Sumner Middle School, and project architect and LEED administrator for the city of Tacoma's Pacific Plaza. LaVaque first joined BLRB in 2004 and has 12 years of experience. He is project manager for schools in Puyallup and Sumner.
PCS Structural Solutions' Seattle and Tacoma offices named two new principals and an associate principal.
Doug Goodwin and
Jeff Klein were named principals, and
Bret Maddox was named associate principal. Goodwin has been with the firm for 16 years and is working on the Muckleshoot Tribe Recreation Complex and Mini of Seattle. Klein has more than 12 years of experience and is working on Saint Anthony's Hospital in Gig Harbor, and the Providence St. Peter Hospital expansion. Maddox has more than 16 years of experience and is working on schools in Bellevue and University Place. The firm also promoted
Gareth Floyd and
Aaron Goodwin to directors. Floyd was named director of finance and Goodwin was named director of BIM/CAD operations.
Herrera Environmental Consultants added two people to its board of directors:
Carol Slaughterbeck, vice president of operations and
Phil Coughlan, associate planner. In her 18 years with Herrera, Slaughterbeck has served in a variety of technical and management roles, assisting the company in growing from 10 employees in 1990 to 120 today. Coughlan has been with Herrera for seven years, focusing on strategic business and sustainability planning and implementation. He was previously the co-owner of a recycling firm. Slaughterbeck and Coughlan join the three existing board members, Carlos Herrera, Michael Spillane and Walter Trial.
