A look at the Belltown Lofts

Belltown Lofts

The Belltown Lofts at 66 Bell St. combines a 1914 commercial/industrial building with new construction, and the project designers have taken a similar approach to the interiors of the 58 condo units.

The design was a collaboration between Driscoll Architects and U-Arc Studio of Seattle. The units feature sandblasted brick and oak beams with modern finishes like exposed metal railings and stainless steel fixtures. Other features include kitchen, living room and bedroom wiring for high-speed cable and Internet connections.

Developed by Peter Erickson, the project centers on a courtyard with a fountain. The top-floor units have individual roof decks. A common roof deck is available for other residents. The condos have 41 garage parking spots and a single elevator that serves both the new and old buildings.

The old building's 25 units are true lofts, with sleeping and bathroom areas above the living and kitchen areas. In the new building the 33 units are flats. Prices range from $268,000 for a 787-square-foot unit to $720,000 for a 1,580-square-foot unit in the old loft building. Many of those units have been sold.

In the new construction portion of the project, prices range from $148,500 for a 567-square-foot unit without parking to $299,900 for a 800-square-foot unit. Units have been set aside for affordable housing.

The project includes street-level retail and office condominium space on the Western Avenue side.

Contractor was Seattle-based Marpac, with structural engineering by Skilling, Ward, Magnusson, Barkshire Inc.
