Structured Communication Systems promoted Andrew Edgar to vice president of its storage and systems division. Edgar has been with the company since 2001. The company develops and integrates networking, security and data protection technologies, with offices in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.
Advanced Interactive Systems of Seattle opened in office in Washington D.C. The company also named Ann Bullen executive customer representative. Bullen previously held positions with General Electric, Lockheed Martin and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Advanced Interactive Systems provides interactive simulated training systems for law enforcement, aviation, security, corrections and military agencies, and recently managed the training of airport baggage screeners for the Transportation Security Administration.
Rose Berg was named head of Edelman Northwest's public affairs group in Seattle and Portland. Previously, Berg served as senior vice president and co-managing director at APCO Worldwide's Seattle office and co-founded Lucas, Bryant & Berg, where she led the effort to launch the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Berg was also a senior vice president at The Rockey Co., a key member of the 1992 transition team for Senator Patty Murray, and served as communications director for the Washington State Senate. Edelman has 38 offices throughout North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
Digital Partners Institute and Digital Partners Youth completed its drive for the World Computer Exchange by shipping 250 donated Pentium computers along with monitors, keyboards, printers, scanners and replacement parts to Guatemala. The computers will be used to provide computer and Internet access for Mayan Indian children. Another shipment is being prepared for India. Shurgard Storage donated the container units used. The organizations plan another drive in May and will post information at http://www.digitalpartners.org/wceseattle/. Digital Partners is a Seattle-based nonprofit working to bring digital technology to bear on issues of poverty in the developing world.
Northwest Commercial Bank will celebrate its grand opening in Lakewood on Thursday, March 20, at 5726 100th St. S.W. Northwest Commercial is an independently owned community bank serving small and mid-size businesses, entrepreneurs and service professionals. Scott D. Winship is the bank's president and chief executive officer, Eugene H. Bray is the chief financial officer and Kenneth F. Wise is the chief credit officer. The 5,567-square-foot building was designed by Cascade Commercial Design, and Mountain Construction served as the general contractor. The bank has been operating at the site since July, 2002.

Seattle's Union Gospel Mission named Julie Sun corporate relations officer. Sun previously held positions with KPMG International in Seoul, Korea, and the Seattle Chinatown-International District Preservation and Development Authority.
David Endicott, a public relations veteran with a 25-year career, was promoted to senior vice president at The Rockey Co. He is a former press secretary to Senator Slade Gorton and served a three-year term on the Washington Health Care Policy Board.
Perkins Coie promoted Michael D. Broaddus, Fred Rivera and Galen Schuler to partner, and also named Sonja Lengnick and Todd Rosencrans partners in its Seattle office. Marie G. Aglion was named of counsel in the Seattle office. Donald W. Heyrich and Pamela Weidler Krueger are new partners in the Bellevue office.
Bastyr University has launched a new clinical doctoral program in acupuncture and oriental medicine for its 2003 fall quarter. The 11-quarter program will be open only to licensed acupuncturists. The program recently received accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Schools and Colleges, and has been approved by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
Synapse Product Development has opened new headquarters in the Madrona district of Seattle. Synapse is a product and technology development consulting firm focusing on product development, from idea and manufacturing to product launch. The new office is located at 3406 E. Union St.
