Alderbrook Resort & Spa

Alderbrook Resort & Spa, a Pacific Northwest retreat on the shores of Hood Canal, hired Max Messmer as director of food and beverage. Messmer has 10 years of experience in the food and beverage industry and recently worked with Access Golf.

The Golf Club at Newcastle

The Golf Club at Newcastle has substantially completed rehabilitation of the public golf course, Coal Creek. Both Coal Creek and China Creek courses are now fully operational and taking tee times. The club is located at 15500 Six Penny Lane in Newcastle.

Seattle-based Recreational Equipment Inc. will open a new store in Richmond, Va., at West Broad Village in November. The 26,500-square-foot store will be two levels. It will be located along West Broad Street near Interstate 64.

Taco Del Mar

Taco Del Mar, a quick service Mexican restaurant, hired Larry Destro as president and CEO. Destro was president international of the Dunkin' Brands, including Baskin-Robbins and Dunkin' Donuts. He also worked at Taco Bell for 13 years, serving for five years as Northwest Zone vice president of operations. Taco Del has over 240 locations.

Estate Planning Council of Seattle

The Estate Planning Council of Seattle has appointed new officers for 2009-2010. Donald Kurth, CPA with the Seattle firm Hagen Kurth Perman & Co., is president. Barbara Sherland, an estate planning lawyer with Stoel Rives in Seattle, is immediate past president. President-elect is Richard Conrad, senior vice president and senior regional trust manager with Wells Fargo The Private Bank in Seattle. Mitchell Maurer, a chartered life underwriter with AXA Advisors in Bellevue, is treasurer. Patricia Char, a lawyer with K&L Gates in Seattle, is secretary. The executive committee includes Lora Brown of the Law Offices of Lora L. Brown in Seattle, Chris Strand, CPA with Bader Martin PS in Seattle, Julie Green, a chartered life underwriter with Northwestern Mutual Financial Network in Seattle, and Michael Vranizan a trust officer with Whittier Trust Co. of Washington in Seattle.

City of Puyallup

The city of Puyallup hired long time business columnist Dan Voelpel as its economic development director. Voelpel began writing business columns for The News Tribune in May 2003 and was communications supervisor at the city of Tacoma from July 1991 to May 2003.

Arnerich Massena & Associates

Arnerich Massena & Associates, a Portland-based independent investment consulting firm, hired David Reichle as director of Arnerich Massena Wealth Management. Reichle was president of Pacific Investment Advisors, a Portland-based wealth management firm he founded in 1997.

The Counter Burgers

The Counter Custom Built Burgers plans to open its first Pacific Northwest fast casual restaurant this September at Ballard Blocks, the 136,000-square-foot urban retail project now open at Northwest Ballard Way and 15th Avenue Northwest. The Counter is a California-based burger chain founded by Jeff Weinstein that allows customers to build gourmet burgers with different topping combinations.

Life Care Center of Puyallup

Life Care Center of Puyallup, a nursing and rehabilitation facility, hired Karen Williams as executive director. Williams was administrator at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation in Olympia for several years. Life Care Center of Puyallup is located at 511 10th Ave. S.E.

Port of Everett

The Port of Everett hired Liz Olson as human resources administrator. Olson has 21 years of experience in human resources and recently worked with the Public Utility District No. 1 of Skagit County and Everett Community College.

Cupcake Royale

Cupcake Royale will open its biggest store yet on Capitol Hill at 1111 E. Pike St. in the last week of July. The space will have a semi-private party area, a community table and a bakery “peep show” with a window showing cooking operations. The store will bake cupcakes for the Madrona and West Seattle cafes, and for neighborhood groceries.
