Skamania Lodge

Skamania Lodge, an all-season resort in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, hired James Boheim as executive chef. Boheim is a classically trained French chef and has 16 years of experience in the profession. He was recently executive chef for banquets at Wild Dunes Resort, Isle of Palms, in South Carolina.

Frazier Healthcare

Seattle-based Frazier Healthcare, a provider of equity and venture capital to high growth and emerging health care companies, hired Tadataka Yamada as a senior executive in residence. Yamada was president of the Global Health Program for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where he led efforts to develop and deliver life-saving therapies in the developing world.

Symetra

Bellevue's Symetra Life Insurance Co. hired Phil Bouvier as vice president of life insurance sales. Bouvier was recently national vice president, Individual Insurance Division at Sun Life Financial in Boston.

Lane Powell

Lane Powell said President Lewis Horowitz and Vice President Charles Riley were recently reappointed by the board of directors to another three years in their current positions. They have been president and vice president since 2006. Horowitz has focused on tax laws for corporations, partnerships and LLCs for more than 25 years. Riley is chair of the Trusts and Estates group.

Washington State Bar Association

The Washington State Bar Association announced its new board of governors. Kent attorney James Armstrong is at-large governor. Seattle attorney Daniel Ford is governor for District 7-East. Tacoma attorney Vernon Harkins is governor for District 6. Chehalis attorney Brian Kelly is governor for District 3. Seattle attorney Wilton Viall is governor for District 8. Each will serve a three-year term.

ICO Global Communications

Kirkland-based ICO Global Communications is changing its name to Pendrell Corp. It has acquired Berkeley, Calif.-based Ovidian Group, an intellectual property solutions firm that works with tech companies in North America, Asia and Europe. Joseph Siino, principal founder and CEO of Ovidian, will continue in his current role and also has been appointed chief IP officer for Pendrell. Ovidian will remain headquartered in Berkeley and operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pendrell Technologies, a subsidiary of Pendrell Corp.

Boka Kitchen + Bar hired Michael Candelaria as head bartender. Candelaria has 20 years of experience and has worked at La Tavolata, Portage and Cascadia Restaurant.

Advocates Law Group

In the past year, a group of five lawyers established Advocates Law Group. They call it the first truly virtual law firm in Washington. It has no central office, and most members practice from their home offices, with support staff provided by contract workers. Founding attorneys are Rebeccah Graham, Theresa Pruett, Dieter Struzyna, George Tamblyn and Todd Wilson. Tamblyn said this reduces overhead 90 percent compared with traditional law offices. The firm plans to expand to about 20 employees with a range of legal services.

Fred Hutchinson

The Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Breast Health Global Initiative, headquartered at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, will establish the Shanghai Breast Health Resource Center as BHGI's first “learning laboratory” in China. This marks the first such agreement between the Shanghai CDC and a U.S. cancer research center. According to a press release for the group, breast cancer mortality has nearly doubled during the past 30 years.
