The Washington State Bar Association announced Seattle attorney Joanna Plichta Boisen is the 2011 recipient of the WSBA Young Lawyers Division Pro Bono Award. Boisen created a formal pro bono program at Foster Pepper as a summer clerk in 2005 and has served as the firm's pro bono counsel for the past six years. She is also chair of the Pro Bono Counsels and Coordinators in Seattle, a position she has held for the past five years.
K&L Gates opened an office in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the firm's first in South America and 39th worldwide. The office is licensed as a foreign legal consultancy, as required by the Brazilian Bar Association.
SNBL USA of Everett, a provider of preclinical services, hired Mark Crane as vice president of business development. Crane has 25 years experience and worked at Ricerca Biosciences and Bridge Pharmaceutical.

Law firm Lane Powell hired Carson Cooper, Connor Shively and Tereza Simonyan. Cooper joined the Construction Practice Group, Shively joined the Litigation Practice Group, and Simonyan joined the Bankruptcy and Creditors' Rights Practice Group.
Banner Bank promoted Roy Slack to vice president/retail branch manager at the Bellevue Center branch. Slack joined Banner Bank in 2011 and previously worked for U.S. Bank, Wells Fargo and Key Bank.
Garvey Schubert Barer hired Nikki Dobay in the Portland office as an associate in the Tax and Benefits Group. Dobay's practice includes federal and state tax controversy and tax planning. She also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Oregon School of Law.

The Lynnwood Convention Center hired Greg Lowry as general manager. Lowry has 20 years of experience in the events industry. He recently worked for SMG and helped open the $340 million expansion of the Colorado Convention Center.
The Children's Music Foundation in Seattle hired Charles Mauzy as chief operating officer. Mauzy has experience launching, leading and creating startup and early stage enterprises.
Woodinville-based LeMond Fitness, maker of cycling and fitness products, hired Raymond Calvert as senior vice president and chief financial officer. Calvert has 20 years of business and finance experience and previously led companies in the medical technology, consumer products and life science industries.
