The Downtown Seattle Association gave Amazon its 2017 City Maker award for helping people in need through FareStart and Mary's Place, and for its contributions to making downtown Seattle vibrant. DSA President & CEO Jon Scholes said, “There are many entities worthy of this recognition in downtown, but it's hard to imagine anyone more deserving this year.” FareStart has started an apprenticeship program at five eateries in an Amazon building, and Mary's Place will open a 47,000-square-foot transitional shelter in an Amazon building.
Tacoma City Manager Elizabeth Pauli said the city has named Budget Director Tadd Wille its new assistant city manager. The Neighborhood and Community Services Department will continue to be led by Linda Stewart. Those jobs were formerly one position. Wille will continue to be responsible for Tacoma's biennial operating and capital budget as his new job is refined.
Seattle-based law firm Perkins Coie hired Jason M. Quintana as a partner in its Mergers & Acquisitions practice in Chicago. He joins from Boeing, where he was senior counsel for M&A.

SAM's Olympic Sculpture Park has partnered with Ventures, a Seattle-based nonprofit, to bring an emerging entrepreneur to the cafe in the park's Paccar Pavilion at Broad and Western. La Panaderia, a bakery and food cart owned and operated by brother and sister team Oscar Fernandez and Felicitas Flores will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Labor Day. Ventures helps entrepreneurs with training, finance and marketing.
Toronto-based Lynx Equity has acquired Seattle-based G&W Commercial Interiors, a provider of commercial flooring and related services in the Northwest. G&W Vice President Steve Woodman will be president after the sale. In 2014, Lynx Equity acquired Portland's Floor Solutions, a distributor of commercial flooring in Oregon and Washington, and continues to pursue other acquisitions. G&W also provides painting, infection control, furniture moving, project management and other services.

Pullman-based Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories is making changes in its leadership team to address new markets and technologies. President and founder Dr. Edmund O. Schweitzer will continue as president and take on the role of chief technology officer. Dave Whitehead will become chief operations officer and continue to lead Research & Development. Luis D'Acosta will become chief sales officer. Bob Morris is now chief engineering services officer. Tony Lee will continue to lead manufacturing operations with the title of chief manufacturing officer. Joey Nestegard continues to lead finance as chief finance officer. SEL designs and builds digital products and systems to protect power grids.
Skagit County's longest serving Superior Court Judge, Michael E. Rickert, retires June 30 after more than 24 years of service. Rickert began his tenure with Skagit County in 1986 when he was elected prosecutor. He developed and launched the first Drug Court program in 1997, which has served nearly 520 people countywide.

Linda B. Clapham has been elected a shareholder at the Seattle law firm Carney Badley Spellman.
The national environmental law firm Beveridge & Diamond has opened an office in Seattle with five lawyers who were formerly with the law firm Riddell Williams, now Fox Rothschild. The lawyers joining Beveridge & Diamond as principals are David C. Weber and Loren R. Dunn. Emerson J. Hilton, Marshall R. Morales and Augustus (Gus) E. Winkes join as associates. Beveridge & Diamond now has 105 lawyers in eight U.S. offices. Weber and Dunn represent real estate developers, municipalities, engineering and construction firms, and other entities involved with contaminated property, environmental litigation and permit issues.
