Jones

On July 15, Sharon Jones will become vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Washington Bothell. Jones has been dean of the University of Portland's Shiley School of Engineering since 2011. Prior to that, she was a professor and director of engineering at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania. Jones will succeed Anita K. Krug, who has been serving in an interim role since the departure of Susan Jeffords.

Harley Marine Services

The board of Harley Marine Services announced that Harley Franco is no longer CEO. Matt Godden remains as president. Harley Marine provides marine transportation along the West Coast (including Alaska and Hawaii), East Coast and the Gulf Coast.

Tacoma Arts Commission

Tacoma Arts Commission named Abby E. Murray as Tacoma's 2019-2021 poet laureate. In that role, Murray will participate in and host public poetry readings, workshops and other community events. She is a poet, instructor, editor and activist who has taught creative writing at universities and community colleges in Colorado, Georgia, Washington and New York.

T-Mobile

Bellevue-based T-Mobile and Sprint chose the Kingsburg area of Fresno County, California, as the location for their previously announced Central Valley Customer Experience Center. The development is subject to a pending merger of the two companies. It is expected to create over 1,000 new jobs.

Tribe

Sidney Tribe joined Carney Badley Spellman in Seattle as a principal attorney. Tribe concentrates her legal practice in appellate law.

HomeStreet Bank

Seattle-based HomeStreet Bank is selling its single-family mortgage origination business to Homebridge Financial Services. The deal includes up to 50 stand-alone, satellite and fulfillment offices; and offers of employment to HomeStreet's related personnel. HomeStreet expects the deal to be inked by summer. The bank also sold about 71% of its single-family mortgage servicing rights to New Residential Mortgage and PennyMac Loan Services; and approved a $75 million stock repurchase program. The bank is reducing its reliance on the cyclical and volatile earnings stream of single-family mortgages and focusing on more stable earnings from commercial and consumer banking.

Brightmark Energy

Brightmark Energy, a San Francisco-based waste and energy development company, launched a biogas project in Yakima County that includes a new pipeline. The plant will convert 150,000 gallons per day of dairy waste from up to 7,000 cows, resulting in annual production of 160,000 MMBtu of renewable natural gas — the equivalent of 1.4 million gallons of gasoline. The project team includes Augean Renewable Natural Gas, Promus Energy and DeRuyter Dairies. Brightmark is managing the joint venture and Promus is the project manager. Production could start later this year.

Bellingham-based Peoples Bank hired Cliff Kraushaar and Patrick Kennedy as vice presidents and commercial banking officers. Kraushaar is working in the Mill Creek office. He has over 25 years of experience in financial services. Kennedy is based on Whidbey Island. He is a financial advisor with over 30 years of experience in commercial lending.

Bellevue Chamber of Commerce

Here are the winners of the 30th Annual Eastside Business Awards: OfferUp, Eastside Business of the Year; Dragonchain, Eastside Small Business of the Year; Jubilee Reach, Eastside Nonprofit of the Year; and FSorb, Groundbreaker Award. The companies were recognized for their commitment to quality, community and innovation.

Adopt A Stream Foundation

On April 9, Adopt A Stream Foundation ecologists and fish habitat restoration technicians will team with 100 volunteers from Project SeaWolf to plant 1,000 small trees next to Middle Fork Quilceda Creek at Strawberry Field Park in Marysville. Much of the forested and wetland area next to the creek has been lost to development. New trees will help keep water temperature cool, filter pollutants, hold water during rainy periods and slowly release water during dry periods.
