Star Rentals will open a new location in Olympia at 7114 Martin Way E. in May. Larry Fale, former Star sales representative in Tacoma will be the manager. The new Olympia store will be the 16th store for the Seattle-based rental chain that operates stores in Washington and Oregon.
Clyde/West named Gary Labelle branch manager for its Seattle location. Labelle is a 25-year industry veteran and has been a branch manager for Northwest construction equipment dealers for the past 11 years. Representing Volvo Construction Equipment in Oregon and Washington, Clyde/West has locations in Portland, Seattle and Spokane, and has been in business since 1911.
Industrial Pump Sales has relocated from Seattle to Poulsbo. The family-owned company moved into its custom-built facility in the Twelve Trees Business Park in February. Industrial Pump Sales provides pumps, parts, accessories, mounting, service and repair of pumps from major distributors such as Barnes, Berkeley, Scot Pump, Moyno and Little Giant in Washington, Alaska, Oregon, Northern Idaho and Western Montana. The Association of Equipment Manufacturers has elected seven new members and named Kenneth Snover as vice president of expositions. Snover was most recently manager of marketing communications for IR Co. of Annandale, N.J. He will be responsible AEM’s expositions, education and membership departments including overseeing CONEXPO-CON/AGG. The new member companies are: Bell Equipment of Garden City, Ga.; Birchwood Consulting International of Mequon, Wis.; Wilco Manufacturing of Lafayette, La.; Hyco International of Atlanta; Mody Pumps of Bakersfield, Calif.; Lifton Industries of Aalborg, Denmark; and Southco of Concordville, Pa.
The International Construction & Utility Equipment Exposition is scheduled for Sept. 23-25 in Louisville, Ky. Arthur Coffey was named president and chief executive officer of WestCoast Hospitality Corp., which operates hotels and other businesses across the West. He will replace Donald Barbieri, who is retiring. Coffey most recently was executive vice president and chief financial officer for WestCoast Hospitality and president of WestCoast Hotels. He has been with the company for 22 years. The company owns Red Lion Hotels and WestCoast Hotels, and sells tickets to events through TicketsWest at venues in the U.S. and Canada.
Vancouver-based Columbia Ventures Corp. announced its subsidiaries have purchased 12,200-kilometer fiber optic submarine cable system connecting North America with Europe. Formerly known as 360atlantic, the assets were sold as part of a reorganization plan involving 360networks. CVC has renamed the system Hibernia Atlantic. The system has immediate capacity of up to 160 gigabits per second on each path, and can be upgraded to handle a protected capacity of 1.9 terabits per second, or more than 10 times the current capacity. Patrick Coughlan, formerly with 360networks, has been appointed managing director. CVC has also acquired terrestrial fiber-based telecommunication capacity from 360networks which can be used to connect customers across North America.
Bob Masin, third generation owner and president of Masins Fine Furnishings & Interior Design in Seattle, received the National Home Furnishings Association's Retailer of the Year award. The award honors Masin for guiding his company through two disasters, an earthquake that severely damaged his Seattle store and a fire that destroyed his Bellevue store. Masins relocated the Bellevue store and has kept its Seattle store open, while making plans to remodel. The new Bellevue store is set to open this fall at the corner of Main and 108th Avenue. Remodel of the Seattle store is expected to begin in the fall, and will increase the showroom and designer offices.
