Carney Badley Spellman named Richard P. Mathews a shareholder and Brent L. Nourse an associate. Mathews was previously a partner and chair of the real estate practice group in the Seattle office of Holland & Knight. Nourse was previously an associate at Short Cressman & Burgess. Nourse represents and advises general contractors, owners, developers, subcontractors and suppliers.
Jean-David Larson has joined the Seattle law firm of Hillis Clark Martin & Peterson as an associate. Larson is a graduate of Duke University School of Law. His practice will emphasize business-related matters.
W. Daniel Heidt and Steven Wood have been named to the advisory board of Sonata Capital Group. Heidt was most recently executive vice president and chief operating officer of MagnaDrive and was previously executive vice president/member of the office of the president at Boeing Commercial Airplane Group. Wood is the managing director of Century Pacific, a diversified real estate services firm. Seattle-based Sonata Capital specializes in private client wealth management.
Central Washington University will expand its safety and health management, and industrial technology programs by offering the three-year programs at CWU-Lynnwood and CWU-SeaTac this fall. CWU-Lynnwood, at Edmonds Community College, will offer a bachelor of science degree in safety and health management and CWU-SeaTac, at Highline Community College, will offer a bachelor of science degree in industrial technology. Susan Wall has joined GA Design to assist the Bellevue graphics firm in business development and marketing. The company also promoted Sara Patillo and Cami Peloza to senior designers. Wall is slated to serve as VP of marketing for the Puget Sound American Marketing Association’s executive council, beginning in July. Patillo has been with GA for over five years, and Peloza has been with the firm for nearly four years.
Steve McKeon, senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer of Bellevue's Puget Energy and Puget Sound Energy, has announced that he will retire in December. McKeon, a former member of Perkins Coie, joined Puget Sound Energy as vice president and general counsel in 1997. Puget Energy is the parent company of Puget Sound Energy. McKeon will assist in the search for his replacement.
Silver Lake Winery of Woodinville has opened a 1,100-square-foot storefront tasting room in Leavenworth. The winery currently operates tasting rooms in Woodinville and Zillah in Yakima County. Grand opening ceremonies for the Leavenworth location are being held this weekend.
The Tacoma Art Museum, which opened its new $22 million building May 3, announced it has exceeded projections for both attendance and revenues in the first month. The museum counted 17,683 people who came to the opening exhibitions and said admission revenues were 132 percent of its projections. In the first month of operations, the museum store took in $92,000, more than the $84,000 in revenues for the entire year of 2002.
Connie Millard Niva of Everett has been named by the governor to Washington State University's board of regents. Niva has served the last 10 years as a member of the Washington State Transportation Commission, and three years as its chair. Her appointment with the commission expires at the end of June. Niva also served as a member of the Everett City Council from 1986-89 and as a congressional liaison for the Puget Sound Water Quality Authority from 1990-92.
