Gary Ashby has opened his third Portland-area location of Damon's Grill in Gresham, Ore. The new restaurant features Damon's latest design concept which includes a new exterior, upscale dining room, bar and big-screen sports and interactive entertainment. Founded in 1979, Damon's International is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, and has more than 140 company and franchised locations worldwide.
Todd Abbott, admissions director for Saint Martin's College, has been elected to serve as Western region representative on the board of the National Catholic College Admissions Association. He will represent 19 Catholic colleges and universities in Washington, Oregon, California and Hawaii. He was also recently elected to a three-year term as treasurer of the Pacific Northwest Association for College Admission Counseling. Abbott has served in Saint Martin's admissions office since 1996.
Brett Oxenhandler has been named Northwest business unit account manager at the Redmond office of Volt. He previously handled Volt's contingent staffing solutions at Microsoft. Volt is an Orange, Calif.-based staffing company. Its Redmond office recruits Internet technology professionals.

Garvey Schubert Barer, a full-service law firm with offices in Seattle, Portland, Washington D.C., and New York, named David J. Shaffer as an owner and Ronald A. Schmidt as of counsel in its Washington, D.C., office. Shaffer and Schmidt are known for their representation of minority special agents in class action lawsuits against federal agencies. The pair were formerly with their own firm, Shaffer, Rapaport & Schmidt.
Seattle Goodwill named James Tisdel to the board of directors. Tisdel is business development officer at Wells Fargo Bank. Seattle Goodwill has been serving the central and northern Puget Sound for 80 years.
A new Seattle-based travel Web site called PassportPlanet.com has gone live at www.passportplanet.com. The site offers planning and booking services for travel to Europe, Central America and the South Pacific. Kathy Robertson, who previously served as vice president of operations at Europe Express in Bothell, is the company's president and owner.
Rear Admiral Jeffrey M. Garrett has assumed command of the 13th U.S. Coast Guard District based in Seattle. Garrett will relieve Rear Admiral Erroll M. Brown who will transfer to U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters, in Washington, D.C., to become assistant commandant for systems. Garrett, a 1974 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, previously served at the U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters as director of resources.
A new Qdoba Mexican Grill will open July 9 in Renton. This is the franchise restaurant's seventh location in the Seattle area. It will be managed by Pat Claffey. Grand opening ceremonies will be held July 11 with all proceeds benefitting the Boys & Girls Club of King County. The restaurant is located at 439 Rainier Ave. S. Qdoba is a wholly owned subsidiary of Jack in the Box.
Tony Caine has joined Aventail Corp. as vice president for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Caine most recently served as managing director of EMEA for Netegrity and previously directed the European sales team for Secure Computing. Seattle-based Aventail is a provider of clientless SSL VPN appliances and services.
