Shields & Associates has merged with Kibble & Prentice. Walt Shields and Shields & Associates staff will join the Kibble & Prentice private client group. Shields will continue as a life insurance professional at Kibble & Prentice. Kibble & Prentice is a Seattle-based financial services firm.
Lithia Motors acquired the Spokane dealership Sutherland Mercedes, along with a California dealership in Santa Rosa. The Spokane store will be renamed Mercedes Benz of Spokane. Medford, Ore.-based Lithia sells 24 brands of new vehicles, and operates 77 stores and 143 franchises in 12 states in the western U.S. and over the Internet. The company was founded in Ashland, Ore., in 1946 and has completed eight acquisitions so far in 2003.
Portland State University received a $500,000 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for its Northwest Center for Engineering, Science and Technology. The grant will support construction of a 130,000-square-foot tower for the College of Engineering and Computer Science. The new structure will house 47 classrooms.
Heidi Satterlee has joined Fremont's Still Life Cafe as a pastry chef. Satterlee was formerly with Fira on Queen Anne Hill.
Sharon L. Hall joined Bellevue's insurance and risk management brokerage Parker, Smith & Feek as a risk specialist in health care. She will join the firm's health care practice division. Hall was previously with Washington Casualty Co., where she was vice president, risk management. Parker, Smith & Feek has offices in Bellevue, Portland and Anchorage.
Atlanta-based LastMinuteGolfer.com has expanded its Web service to include the Seattle area. The site offers access to next-day tee times and other listing services. The free Web site also serves Atlanta, Detroit, Jacksonville, Fla., Kansas City, St. Louis and Charlotte, N.C.

Jim Nagle was recently selected to co-author the Administration of Government Contracts publication. Nagle is a senior partner with Oles Morrison Rinker & Baker of Seattle. He serves the firm's construction and public contract law practice group. The Administration of Government Contracts is published by the George Washington University Law School. It is an authoritative publication in the field of U.S. government contracting and procurement.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada awarded the city of Renton a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2003 budget document. To receive the award, the recipient has to satisfy guidelines for effective budget presentation.
William Ruckelshaus has joined Vykor's board of directors. Vykor is a Renton-based provider of sourcing solutions for engineered parts. Rucklehaus was head of the Environmental Protection Agency and has held positions with the FBI, Browning Ferris, Perkins Coie, the U.S. Department of Justice and Weyerhaeuser. He is currently director of the board at Cummins Engine Co.
Tully’s Coffee has entered into an agreement with Albertsons Grocery Stores to sell bagged coffee in 183 northern California Albertsons locations. Tully’s coffee is currently available in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Montana and Colorado. Tully's retail division operates 99 specialty stores in Washington, Oregon, California and Idaho.
Lynden Air Freight of Seattle has expanded operations to Milwaukee, Wis., Washington, D.C., Greenville, S.C., and Florida, and added seven new offices in China: Beijing, Dalian, Tianjin, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Quingdao. Lynden now operates in 47 North American locations and 13 in Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.
