Western Washington University

William Demmert, a professor in the education department at Western Washington University, will receive the Seattle Pacific University medallion award for his work in the field of Native American education. The medallion is awarded to SPU alumni who have served the university and community with special commitment. Prior to his career at WWU, Demmert was commissioner of education in Alaska, director of education for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and dean of the University of Alaska in Juneau.

Washington State Chiropractic Association

The Washington State Chiropractic Association named Lori Bielinski, lobbyist and membership director, executive director. Before joining the WSCA three years ago, Bielinski was a senior policy analyst for former Washington State Insurance Commissioner Deborah Senn. The WSCA is a statewide association that represents the chiropractic profession in Washington.

Norris Beggs & Simpson

Charlie Kleier was named partner at Norris Beggs & Simpson, a Portland-based commercial real estate firm. Kleier operates out of the firm's Vancouver office and will remain an active broker under the title of executive vice president.

Pacific Market International

Pacific Market International, a Seattle-based designer, manufacturer and marketer of insulated food and beverage containers, hired three new employees. Shelly Zhao, Asia brand business manager, will be based in Shanghai, China. Jill Lewis, sales manager, and Fred Cramer, quality engineer, will be based in Seattle.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation named Greg Shaw director of Foundation, Library and Pacific Northwest Advocacy and director of the Pacific Northwest Program. Shaw is a former partner at Shepardson Stern & Kaminsky, a communications consulting firm. The foundation, led by William H. Gates, Sr., is based in Seattle and is dedicated to improving global health and learning.

Anthem Group

Anthem Group named Ted Leonhardt, founder of the Leonhardt Group, global president. The Leonhardt Group, a brand design consulting agency, was acquired by Cordiant Communications in 2000. Following the acquisition, Leonhardt moved to Europe as chief creative officer/global of Fitch: Worldwide, Cordiant's brand design consulting agency. Anthem Group is a Chicago-based strategic brand and packaging design consulting agency that serves the food, beverage and consumer product markets.

Liberty Tax Service

Liberty Tax Service opened a new office at 8202 State Highway 104 in Kingston. The Virginia Beach, Va.-based company specializes in computerized tax preparation, electronic filing and refund anticipation loans.

Seattle Aquarium Society

The Seattle Aquarium Society, an organization that encourages child and adult engagement with the Seattle Aquarium, named Marsha Savery director of marketing, membership and guest services. Savery is the former vice president and marketing director for Nordstrom and has served on the society's board of directors for the past six years.

Parker Smith & Feek

Parker Smith & Feek, a Bellevue-based regional insurance brokerage, appointed five new shareholders. They are John Emery, client relations manager; Gary Grosenick, who provides risk management consulting and insurance brokerage services to hospitality, manufacturing and healthcare clients; Susan Stead, head of the real estate practice group; Dwight Jarvis, who provides insurance brokerage and risk management services to commercial clients; and Steve Wachter, account executive in the surety department. Jarvis and Wachter were recently promoted to vice president.

Longview Fibre

Longview Fibre Co., a manufacturer of paper packaging products, promoted William J. Gill to chief engineer. He replaces Robert B. Pollack, who was promoted to vice president - manufacturing services and assistant manager of the company's Longview pulp-paper mill. Gill joined the company as a design engineer in 1970.
