University of Phoenix

University of Phoenix in Puget Sound is opening new campuses in Bellevue and Tacoma this week. Northwest Regional Vice President Mark S. Cameron will host an opening ceremony tomorrow at the Tacoma Financial Center at 1145 Broadway. The Bellevue opening will be Thursday at the Lincoln Executive Center building at 3380 146th Place S.E., Suite 200. Events are open to students, faculty and guests, and will begin at 4 p.m.

Solar Washington

Solar Washington is having a meeting Thursday at the Happy Days Diner in Lakewood at 6:30 p.m. to select its members, who will provide direction for the organization for the next two years. Crista Ministries

The Northwest Energy Efficiency Council awarded the Building Operation Certification Level I to Mark Maynard, director of facilities at Seattle-based Crista Ministries. Maynard earned the certification after a year of training and project work in building operations. BOC is accredited by the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries and technical colleges in Washington and Oregon.

Northstar Neuroscience

Northstar Neuroscience, a Seattle-based developer of technologies for treating neurological disorders, named John Bowers vice president of marketing and business development. Bowers will lead efforts in strategic market planning, business development and reimbursement. Bowers was a director of global marketing for Guidant's Vascular Intervention Division. Northstar's initial clinical application is stroke, the leading cause of long-term disability in the U.S.

Crowley Maritime Corp.

Oakland-based Crowley Maritime Corp. promoted Alex Sweeney to vice president and general manager of its energy and marine services business unit in Seattle. He replaces Steve Peterson. Sweeney will be responsible for Crowley's services to companies in exploration, production and distribution of oil and gas. Areas of operation extend from Prudhoe Bay to Rio de Janeiro, from the Russian Far East to Africa. Sweeney will also oversee ocean towing and transportation services.

Piranha Productions

Media creative and production company Piranha Productions appointed Michele Phillips vice president of client accounts. Phillips will identify and implement new business strategies and provide services to companies worldwide. She was an account manager at Sandusky Radio in Seattle and also worked in sales management at Seattle television station KTWB-TV, and as account manager at Fisher Broadcasting's KOMO-TV.

Cascadia Revolving Fund

The Seattle-based community development nonprofit Cascadia Revolving Fund aims to lend $600,000 to eight Central Oregon businesses this year, and has hired Cris Himes as business lender. Cascadia provides support to entrepreneurs and organizations to help them grow businesses and create jobs. It opened a Redmond, Ore., office last year to focus efforts on Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson counties.

WorkSource Business Connection

Pierce County employers are asked to participate in discussions about what kinds of job training courses are needed in Pierce County colleges. Pam Cone, business outreach director for WorkSource Pierce Business Connection, said business people are needed to share ideas about the skills they seek in applicants and suggest training programs. Loudeye

Loudeye Corp., a Seattle-based business-to-business digital media company, named Larry Madden executive vice president and chief financial officer, and Bill Fasig executive vice president of business development, sales and marketing. Madden will oversee Loudeye's financial operations, legal and business affairs, and strategic planning. Loudeye's current chief financial officer, Jerry Goade, will become senior vice president of finance. Fasig will oversee Loudeye's worldwide business development and sales, corporate communications, brand building and marketing strategy.

Seattle-based Tully's Coffee appointed Keri Peffer director of marketing. Peffer is responsible for overseeing brand positioning, retail and wholesale promotional strategies, new product development and community relations. Peffer worked for Corus Brands, a local wine conglomerate, as director of marketing and retail management
