Lane Powell

Harold E. (Hal) Snow, Jr. recently joined the Seattle law firm Lane Powell as a partner in the estate planning practice group. Snow's 25 years of experience include business succession planning and wealth transfer. Lane Powell offers legal services in business, employment and litigation and has lawyers in Washington, Oregon, Alaska and London.

Helsell Fetterman

The Seattle law firm of Helsell Fetterman added Michael C. Harman as an associate. Harman's experience is in retirement planning and forming businesses. He'll focus on estate and tax planning. Harman practiced with Bellevue law firm Smith & Zuccarini.

Soapbox

Founders of Soapbox Communications Janda Black and Christine Stepherson recently won the Association for Women in Communications Seattle chapter's Communicator of the Year award, which goes to paid or volunteer professional communicators in Washington. Soapbox does work in public relations, media relations and public affairs.

Artist Trust

Artist Trust Executive Director Barbara Courtney recently announced her resignation after almost eight years, in order to be executive director of the Orcas Center on Orcas Island. She finishes at Artist Trust at the end of July. Artist Trust will look for a new director. The nonprofit works to support artists in all disciplines

Slo Joe's BBQ Restaurant

The 1,700-square-foot restaurant Slo Joe's Bigtime Backyard BBQ in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood is now open. It's located at 301 Westlake Ave. N. on the ground floor of the Seattle Biomedical Research Institute Building. Other recently announced retailers in South Lake Union include Blue Moon Burgers, Paddy Coyne's Irish Pub, Rosalind's Cafe, West Coast Frogs and Uptown Espresso.

SmallTownPapers

Seattle-based SmallTownPapers is expanding its coverage to all 50 states, up from more than 150,000 pages of digital newspaper archives from small towns in 14 states. SmallTownPapers sets up online, searchable versions of newspaper archives for publishers. Some of these archives date back to 1889. Offset printer Paul Jeffko started the company when a client asked him to convert printed books to digital files, and he learned about optical character recognition technology.

Cook Security Group

Cook Security Group recently opened a location in Seattle. The Portland-based company installs and maintains security systems for financial and commercial institutions.

Leslie Boelter has joined Nancy S. Juetten Marketing as public relations assistant. Boelter comes to the agency as an undergraduate at Illinois Wesleyan University. The public relations and marketing agency is based in Bellevue.

Sheraton Seattle

Carrianne Pugh has been named director of sales and marketing for the Sheraton Seattle Hotel & Towers. She was director of sales of the Sheraton Boston Hotel from 2002 to 2004 and was sales manager at the Renaissance Hotel in Seattle.

Lane Powell

Julie K. Thrall is a shareholder in Lane Powell's Seattle office and is a member of the securities litigation practice group. Prior to joining the firm, she was a member of the Dorsey & Whitney trial group and worked for the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Providence ElderPlace

Providence ElderPlace has moved into a new facility in the new Rainier Vista housing development in South Seattle. ElderPlace Executive Director Ellen Garcia said the facility now can serve 70 people a day, providing health care and social services. The 77-unit Providence Gamelin House occupies the upper three floors of the new four-story building where ElderPlace is located. Units are available to residents over 62 with incomes below $27,250 for a one-person household or below $31,150 for a two-person household.
