D.A. Davidson & Co., a full-service investment firm based in Great Falls, Mont., will take over two Smith Barney offices in Port Angeles and Pendleton, Ore. Both offices will close as Smith Barney on Dec. 12 and reopen under the D.A. Davidson & Co. name Dec. 15. Most of the staff in each office will remain the same and the financial consultants, not Smith Barney, will keep their clients. The Pendleton office will operate as a satellite of Davidson's Kennewick office, under Sharon Rhodes, branch manager. The Port Angeles office will be managed by current Smith Barney employee, Joseph Denhart.
Destination Hotels & Resorts hired Daniel Salvatora as regional director of travel industry sales for the Northwest Collection of Suncadia, Skamania Lodge and Sunriver Resort. Salvatora has 20 years experience in the travel industry and last worked at Clipper Navigation and Clipper Vacations.
Heavy Restaurant Group will open a restaurant called Barrio in the Pike-Pine neighborhood of Capitol Hill this month. Barrio will have a Northwest approach to Mexican-inspired cuisine and will be in Trace Lofts North at 1420 12th Ave. Heavy Restaurant Group is owned by Larry Kurofsky and also operates Purple Cafe and Wine Bar.

The Washington State Tourism Commission elected Kimberly Bennett, CEO of the Southwest Washington Convention and Visitors Bureau, to serve as co-chair of the commission. She takes over the role from Kris Watkins of the Tri-Cities Visitor and Convention Bureau. Washington State Tourism Commission co-chairs are elected to serve for one year.
Banner Bank hired Andrew Tubb as vice president/client manager at the Bellevue Corporate Banking Office. Tubb has worked for U.S. Bank, West One Bank and GE Capital.
Regional law firm Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt added shareholder Fraser Mendel to the Seattle office. Mendel will enhance the law firm's international and Chinese capacities, as he spent 12 years practicing in Beijing, recently at Morrison & Foerster. Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt established the China practice in response to China's rising prominence in the global marketplace and clients' growing needs in the region.
ZymoGenetics promoted Douglas Williams, the company's president, to the position of CEO, effective Jan. 2, 2009. At that time, Bruce Carter will retire from the position and will continue to serve as chairman of the board of directors in a non-executive capacity. Williams has 20 years experience in biotechnology and has previously worked at Immunex and Seattle Genetics.

The Seattle City Council hired Kimberly Reason as communications manager for the Legislative Department. Reason was divisional vice president of corporate communications & media relations for eight years at Macy's Northwest.
Seattle law firm Cairncross & Hempelmann announced Matt Hanna and Ryan McFarland are principals of the firm, effective January 2009. Hanna focuses on real estate transactions and is a member of the Real Estate Group. McFarland is a member of the Real Estate Group as well as the Hospitality,Travel & Tourism Team.
Apex Facility Resources, a Seattle-based commercial office furniture dealer and relocation company, hired Carol DeJong as vice president of sales and marketing, Adam Kurtenbach as VP of architectural products, Julie LeFebvre as sales account manager and Beth Larsen as account manager. DeJong worked at Teknion. Kurtenbach worked at Crane Woodcraft. LeFebvre worked at HBI Office Interiors and Action Business Furniture. Larsen worked at Vangard Concept Offices.
Avalara, a Bainbridge Island-based provider of end-to-end sales, use and VAT tax automation business solutions, hired Jerry Goade as chief financial officer. Goade has 20 years experience and has worked at Imperium Renewables, Clearwire and Loudeye Corp.
