The magazine Outdoors NW will launch a new bicycling publication in March at the Seattle International Bicycle Expo called NW Cyclist. NW Cyclist will feature the best road and mountain biking areas in the Northwest, as well as commuting tips, favorite Northwest rides and tours, and gear and event previews. The annual magazine that will be edited by bicycling writers Amy Poffenbarger and Jennifer Donahue, both of Seattle.
Frause Visual, a Seattle-based creative audio/visual company, hired three new team members: Erika Sunmark, Matteo Bava and Susan Lamb. Sunmark is a senior producer with 10 years experience and has worked with MTV and A&E. Bava is editor/director of photography and was a freelance editor in the fashion and design industry. Lamb is senior art director/designer with 12 years experience and was with Macy's Northwest. Frause Visual is a part of Frause communications firm.
Clark Nuber, a CPA firm in Bellevue, hired Aaron Banks and Irina Velinova as tax associates, Anna Jin as audit associate and Patrick McClure as MS SQL and SharePoint developer.

Virginia Mason Medical Center hired Diane Miller as vice president and executive director of Virginia Mason Institute. Miller spent the last year with Simpler Consulting, consulting on lean management techniques. VMI was created to meet the growing number of requests from health care organizations interested in learning how to apply lean principles to their business.
Quinn/Brein, a full-service marketing and public relations agency, has hired three new staff members at its Bainbridge Island headquarters. Elizabeth Scott is director of market research and brand strategy, Daliah Treyve is media specialist and Karina Miller is a media specialist focusing on sustainability marketing.
Seattle-based Applied Discovery, an electronic discovery products and services company, hired William Pieser as chief technology officer. Pieser has 25 years experience in technology. He has focused on enterprise software startups for the past eight years and was recently with SchemaLogic. Applied Discovery is a division of LexisNexis.

Amazon.com has acquired AbeBooks. AbeBooks is an online marketplace for books, with over 110 million primarily used, rare and out-of-print books listed for sale by thousands of independent booksellers around the world. It will continue to function as a stand-alone operation based in Victoria, B.C., and will maintain its Web sites.
Frause, a Seattle-based communications firm, has launched a new division called Frause Visual. Jeri Vaughn, formerly of Sadis & Vaughn, will lead the venture as managing partner and executive producer of the division. Frause Visual will offer services such as videos, audio, broadcast, branding, design and Web sites.
Bartell Drugs will open a new store in Issaquah in the fall of 2009. It will be located in Overlake Center at 5700 E. Lake Sammamish Parkway. The 16,400-square-foot store will offer a full range of services.
