AISC

The American Institute of Steel Construction presented six lifetime and special achievement awards at the recent North American Steel Construction Conference held in Seattle. Charles W. Roeder of the University of Washington won a special achievement award for his work on eccentrically-braced frames. Roeder also was one of the key researchers in the SAC research project. Other winners of special achievement awards included Randolph Jefferson and James Glymph of Frank O. Gehry & Associates, and Kim Roddis of the University of Kansas. Winners of lifetime achievement awards included bridge designer John M. Kulicki of Modjeski & Masters, structural engineer Lawrence G. Griffis of Walter P. Moore & Associates and educator Donald Sherman of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Express Construction

Dan McTaggart has joined Express Construction Co. as director of business development. McTaggart has over 20 years of experience in construction and real estate development, with an emphasis on pre-construction services and partnering with design and development consultants on negotiated private construction projects. Prior to joining Express, McTaggart worked with Construction Associates for nine years. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Washington and serves on the board of directors of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Washington.

WSDOT

Todd Harrison tomorrow will become the acting assistant regional administrator for the state Department of Transportation's Mount Baker area, which covers Skagit, Island, San Juan and Whatcom counties. Harrison is replacing Paul Johnson, who is retiring after 33 years with the department. In his new role, Harrison will oversee regional transportation planning, design, construction, maintenance, traffic, transportation and local support services for the Mount Baker area. Harrison began his WSDOT career in 1985 as a geotechnical engineer. He later moved into construction and design, eventually becoming a project engineer. In February last year, he became Mount Baker’s area manager, where he helped deliver the state’s regional transportation program within the four counties.

Penta Building Group

Jeff Manning has been named business development and marketing manager for Penta Building Group in Las Vegas. Manning was formerly with Baugh Construction in Seattle and holds bachelor's degrees in business administration, marketing, human resource management and construction management from the University of Washington
