Walsh Construction Co. has added Nick Cooper as project manager and Chuck Holcom as chief estimator to its Seattle office. Cooper is a 20-year industry veteran with a background in multi-family, commercial and historic rehabilitation. He is currently the 2002 president of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Washington. He also is a certified project management professional through the Project Management Institute. Holcom has almost 30 years of construction estimating experience. He is a registered engineer and previously was a partner at Bodenhamer, an Olympia-based general contractor. He holds a master's degree in construction management from the University of California at Berkeley.

Mayes Testing Engineers has promoted Tom Robinson to branch manager of its Tacoma office. In his new role, Robinson is responsible for managing the office's laboratory, field inspectors and local projects. He has over 20 years of materials testing and inspection experience. The Tacoma office has been open for five years, providing testing and inspection for projects like the Tacoma Art Museum and the Museum of Glass. Mayes also has offices in Everett and Portland.

Seattle-based Taylor Construction has two new stockholders in the company -- employees Don Stratford and Nancy Kitano. The pair joins Steve Taylor as co-owners. Stratford has been with Taylor since 1998 and has experience in both project and company management. Kitano has worked for the company since 1997. She spent 17 years as a project manager with US West Communications, and is experienced in all phases of building construction and space planning.

Several former McCarthy employees have joined the ranks at Lease Crutcher Lewis. Mark Gibbons, Don Simon, Scot Teichen and Rick Pitman have been hired as superintendents. Lewis also hired Diane Undi-Haga, a former Wright Runstad & Co. employee, as a project manager in the Special Projects Division. Gibbons has 23 years of experience, including 11 with McCarthy. He is now working with Simon on a parking garage at University Village shopping center. Simon has logged in 25 years in the business, including 20 with McCarthy. Teichen has over 20 years of experience, 10 of those with McCarthy. He is working on high-end condominium buildouts at the Millennium Tower for the Holyoke Fine Homes Division. Pitman is a 20-year construction veteran, with 12 of those years at McCarthy. He is a graduate of the AGC Superintendent Training Program and holds a certificate in accounting from ITT Peterson School of Business. He is working in Lewis' Special Projects Division. Undi-Haga holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Washington State University. She is working on several retail projects at University Village, plus sitework and utilities at Runstad's Southport site in Renton.

In this position, Johnson will be responsible for all of Essex’s material management and purchasing activities worldwide, and will be based out of the company’s Arcola, Texas, service center. Johnson has over 20 years of experience in purchasing. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Houston at Clear Lake, and is a certified purchasing manager
