UW Center for Urban Horticulture

The Center for Urban Horticulture at the University of Washington has so far raised more than $400,000 to help rebuild buildings lost to arson last May. The center is allowing donors to purchase floor tiles with an engraved leaf pattern and donor's names to pave the new center's lobby. For information visit www.urbanhort.org. Other funding sources include the Miller Charitable Fund of Seattle, which has pledged matching funds and the Northwest Horticultural Society, which has established a $55,000 fund and pledged an additional $200,000 for library furnishings and shelving.

Remodelors Hall of Fame

Omar Brown, former Bellevue resident, has been posthumously inducted into the National Remodeling Hall of Fame. Brown was one of six people nationwide selected for the honor, which included a $1,000 donation to the Omar Brown Scholarship Fund. In 1956, Brown started one of the first local Remodelors Councils in the country in Washington state. He also contributed to the industry through recruitment, advocacy and labor relations, and leadership. The award was given by the National Association of Home Builders Remodelors Council Board of Trustees.

Pella

Mike Rodgers has joined Pella Windows and Doors in Bellevue in its commercial windows sales division. In his new role, Rodgers is responsible for development of window and door sales to the Northwest commercial construction markets.

Sellen Construction

Sellen Construction Co. has added Bob Bowlin, Stan Gaunt and Patricia Tanner. Bowlin, a 34-year veteran of the construction industry, joins the company as a mechanical and control systems specialist. He was the owner of The Bowlin Co., which provided expertise on corporate, institutional and laboratory projects. Gaunt is a superintendent with over 34 years of experience in industrial, retail and commercial projects. Tanner is the company's marketing coordinator. She brings four years of A/E/C industry experience from similar roles at Space and as an independent marketing consultant.

KJM & Associates

Steven Lee and Nina Marquis have joined the Bellevue office of KJM & Associates. Lee is a scheduler and Marquis is a project controls specialist. Lee has 13 years of experience in construction management, fixed facility, and remedial project management and project controls. He holds two bachelor's degrees in engineering from Cambrian University. Marquis has over 16 years of experience in project controls, executive administration and project management. She recently managed cost allocation and budgeting for construction, arts, legal and creative services contracts with a transportation agency.

MBA Education Foundation

The Master Builders Education Foundation, part of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties, has awarded the Omar Brown Scholarship to two students studying the construction trades. Checks for $2,600 were given to Laurie Scott, a sophomore in carpentry technologies at Columbia Basin College, and Shawn Christopherson, who is in the carpentry program at Seattle Central Community College. The scholarship is named for past MBA president Omar Brown, a proponent of education.
