Absher Construction Co. hired Will Kwan as chief financial officer. Kwan has over 20 years of experience in various financial roles, with a deep understanding of financial management, compliance and forecasting, according to the company. Prior to joining Absher, Kwan held various senior financial positions at leading organizations, most recently as the CFO and vice president of an air quality solutions company based in Missouri. Absher is an employee-owned company with offices in Puyallup, Bellevue and Wenatchee. Its primary markets are education, recreation, transportation, federal and multifamily housing.





APA — The Engineered Wood Association announced its board of trustees, including new chair Doug Asano, who is senior vice president of sales and marketing at Roseburg Forest Products. He succeeds Ashlee Cribb. The association also named Chris Degnan as vice chair, and Stephen Williams as chair of the finance committee. Degnan is director of commodities and home improvement warehouse at Weyerhaeuser. Williams is executive vice president and CFO at Western Forest Products. APA further named two to its board: John Murphy Jr., executive vice president of Murphy Co., and Rich Babcock, CEO of Rosboro. Tacoma-based APA represents mills throughout North America.
Adaptive Roofing of Renton joined the Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Washington. The company provides roof replacement, roof repairs, roof cleaning, gutter replacement, roof inspections and certification. Sean Sternberg is co-owner and general manager.

In Bothell, Cornerstone General Contractors promoted Max Anderson to chief estimator. Cornerstone says Anderson has been a major contributor to its growth since joining the firm in 2009. One of his most recent contributions was securing the opportunity to construct Hilltop Heritage Elementary School in Renton — the region's first elementary school with mass timber as its primary structural system. Anderson is a graduate of the University of Washington's construction management program, and is an Associate DBIA and certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. Cornerstone provides preconstruction services and construction management for public and private projects.

APA — The Engineered Wood Association named John Murphy Sr. as the 2023 Bronson J. Lewis Award winner. Now in its 18th year, the award recognizes individuals for their leadership and outstanding contributions to the engineered wood industry. Murphy, who has served the industry for over 50 years, was presented with the award earlier this month at the APA annual meeting in Palm Desert, California. He is president and CEO of Murphy Co., which operates six mills in Oregon and Washington that produce softwood and hardwood plywoods and laminated veneer lumber. He also served for 25 years on APA's board. The award is named in honor of the late Bronson Lewis, who served for 24 years as secretary and then executive vice president of Tacoma-based APA.

The Washington State Construction Center for Excellence earlier this month rolled out a new website at http://www.constructioncenterofexcellence.com. The group is a statewide hub that narrows the gap between employers' demands for a highly skilled workforce and colleges' ability to supply work-ready graduates. It operates 12 centers across the state.
