Rupee Bar opened last fall at 6307 24th Ave. N.W. in Ballard, with a menu of Indian and Sri Lankan-inspired food and cocktails, and a design is inspired by those places.
The 700-square-foot space seats 26, and is located inside an old brick storefront. The small, cozy space is finished in warm blue hues, walnut casework, brass highlights, colorful tile and big, basket-shaped lamps overhead.
Rupee Bar is a James Beard Foundation Award finalist for Outstanding Restaurant Design (75 seats and under), and was recently named to GQ magazine’s list of “Best New Restaurants in America 2020.”
The seating area is currently closed due to the pandemic, but the restaurant offers takeout and delivery.
Owners, contractors: Joe Sundberg, Rachel Johnson, Patrick Thalasinos
Architect: Heliotrope Architects
