Design Perspectives: Vancouver: what works there, won't here

  • With its tall buildings and open spaces, Vancouver, B.C., can be admired from afar, but the two cities are very different.
  • Glass tower, green lawn. As a simplified paradigm for downtown housing density, it works — at least in Vancouver.

    The lawn provides places to play, the openness protects light and views, and the many eyes on the open spaces provide a measure of safety for everyone.
