Some projects do something unexpected that surpasses the requirements at hand, adding a kind of value that may have nothing to do with cost.
Good design usually involves strong collaboration between owner and designer, and a willingness to explore possibilities and take risks. In 2003, the American Institute of Architects/Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce Project of the Month Program brought some of these projects into closer focus.
