Bates puts green building on the class schedule

  • The college's program, the first of its kind in the area, will begin later this month.

    Jon Alexander teaches green construction methods to a group of Japanese students at Bates Technical College. The school decided to create a green-building program after training employees last year from Tokyu Home Corp., a Tokyo-based home builder.

    THE NORTHWEST is re­-garded as a leader in sustainable building practices, but it took a Japanese home-building company to encourage a local school to set up the Seattle area's first college green-building program.
