Gates Hall uses the past to create a better future

Metal trusses stitch the new structure of Mary Gates Hall to an original wall of the old physics building.

Often as a matter of principle, additions and renovations to historic buildings have made clear stylistic departures from their original structures. This pattern reflects the premise that it is the architect’s responsibility to articulate the old and the new in the lifetime of a building and avoid making false historic references.
