EHS Design co-founder Mindy Howard has returned to the firm as managing principal after an eight-year hiatus. She will direct financial functions, oversee human resources, coordinate with attorneys and insurance agents, and manage the marketing staff. Howard and EHS CEO Jack Emick started the firm in 1977, as Emick Howard & Associates. They firm joined with Paul Seibert and Associates in 1992. Seattle-based EHS Design provides strategic planning, interior design and architecture.







Sclater Architects hired David Glassman and Mike Kutsin as project managers, Matt Alvarado as a job captain, Meg Taylor as a project coordinator, Steven Reed as an architect, Paul Castilonia as an accountant and Toktam Shafiei Tehrany as an intern. Glassman has 30 years of experience designing and managing commercial, retail, light-industrial and mixed-use projects. He is project manager for the office expansion at Lincoln Square in Bellevue. Kutsin has 22 years of experience with civic, mixed-use, senior living, commercial and residential projects, and is working on Lincoln Square. Alvarado has eight years of aviation and commercial experience and is providing support on the Lincoln Square garage. Taylor has seven years of experience in building repositioning and commercial interiors, and is supporting the Lincoln Square project. Reed has 17 years of experience with high-rise office, retail and mixed-use projects, and is supporting a mixed-use project. Castilonia has more than 25 years of accounting experience. Tehrany holds a master of architecture degree from Washington State University and is working on the Lincoln Square office tower. The Seattle architectural design and planning firm said it has more than doubled the size of its team in the last five years, and now has over 30 people on the design and planning staff.




The Seattle office of IA Interior Architects hired Al Gabay as a project architect, Ermias Ephrem, Sr. as a job captain and Ali Khatibi as a senior project manager. Laura Libby was promoted from junior to senior project designer. The San Francisco-based architectural firm focuses on interiors and workplace strategies.


Mayer/Reed promoted Jeramie Shane to associate partner of the landscape architecture and urban design group, and Kathy Fry to associate partner of the visual communications and product design group. Shane joined Mayer/Reed in 1998. He is working on the Daimler North American headquarters. Fry was hired in 2008 and has 12 years of experience in signage, wayfinding, interpretive graphic design and branded spaces for museums, hospitals, libraries, office spaces, airports and universities, including Vancouver Community Library. Portland-based Mayer/Reed provides landscape architecture, urban design, visual communications and product design, with an 18-person staff.
Matt Medlin, the managing director of Duff & Phelps in Washington, D.C., has returned to Seattle and joined Clark Nuber in Bellevue as a shareholder. His clients range from tech start-ups to global enterprises. Medlin was previously a partner with Arthur Andersen and KPMG.
Seattle Repertory Theatre named Braden Abraham acting artistic director. Abraham was associate artistic director and has been on the artistic staff of Seattle Rep since 2003. The Rep's artistic director, Jerry Manning, died suddenly in April.
Matthew Schiltz, former CEO of Tier 3, has joined Seattle-based managed cloud provider Blue Box as CEO. Blue Box is a cloud infrastructure provider. Schiltz was CEO of Tier 3 until its acquisition by CenturyLink last fall. Blue Box founder and CEO Jesse Proudman will become chief technology officer and remain on the board of directors. Blue Box Cloud runs on hardware dedicated to each customer.

Ater Wynne has promoted Alyssa Stibolt from manager to director of marketing and business development. Stibolt handles public relations, social media, website content, advertising, events, business development strategies and client relations, and has 10 years of experience in marketing. The law firm has offices in Seattle and Portland.
Seattle Bank named John W. Blizzard president and CEO. He has more than 23 years of banking experience, and replaces Patrick F. Patrick who is retiring as president and CEO. Blizzard worked at Seattle Mortgage, a subsidiary of Seattle Bank, where he ran the mortgage and escrow operation. Most recently, he was president and CEO of Northwest Bank.
The U.S. Small Business Administration named its 2014 Washington Women-Owned Business Champion: Madhu Singh, principal of MK Singh Law Office, now Foundry Law Group, in Seattle. The award goes to people who help increase business opportunities for women. Singh is president of Women's Business Exchange, which offers leadership and networking opportunities.



PSF Mechanical hired Ryan Ashley as project manager, Sarah Amick as accounting assistant and Kristin Tate as accounts payable specialist. Ashley has nine years of project management experience and holds a bachelor's degree in international relations from the U.S. Naval Academy. Amick has 15 years of administrative experience and holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Washington. Tate has four years of accounting experience and holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Central Washington University. Seattle-based PSF specializes in mechanical design-build projects in life sciences, high-tech and Class A office facilities.
McKinnon Furniture founders Sheila McKinnon and Theresa Schneider are retiring and Gary and Susan Strand are stepping in on June 1 as the new owners. Gary Strand spent 30 years in banking before retiring from Bank of America. The 25-year-old company uses sustainable hardwoods to make its furniture in the Sodo area of Seattle. It has a showroom in the 1201 Western Building.
Puyallup-based Denis Gray Trucking was named 2014 Washington Family-Owned Small Business of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Denis Gray Trucking is a second-generation, family-owned and operated company that transports oversize and overweight loads throughout the western United States and Canada. It was founded in 1977 by Denis Gray and is now run by his son Michael Gray.
Algona-based Allen-Bradbury Construction was named 2014 Washington 8(a) Graduate Small Business of Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration. The Native American-owned company, founded in 1997 by Allen Engberg, graduated from the SBA 8(a) program in May 2010. It builds for the federal government and seven area Indian tribes.
The U.S. Department of Energy awarded Star status to Hanford Site contractor CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Co. The designation is part of DOE's Voluntary Protection Program, which recognizes companies' efforts to improve safety and health programs.
