Nordstrom named two new presidents to its executive team to succeed retiring long-term senior executives Gail Cottle, president of Nordstrom Product Group and Susan Tabor, president, Nordstrom Rack. Cottle will be succeeded by James O'Neal who was formerly general manager for Nordstrom's East Coast region. Tabor will be succeeded by Laurie Black who was formerly corporate merchandise manager for women's active sportswear, lingerie and hosiery. Cottle and Tabor, whose retirements are effective as of the end of November, will assist with the transition of leadership.
Graham & Dunn has been awarded the 2001 Community Service Award by the Puget Sound Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators. The award is presented to association members demonstrating exceptional service to the community. Graham & Dunn was recognized for its participation in many community activities including: Beat the Bridge, Northwest AIDS Walk, American Heartwalk, Washington Literacy Trivia Contest and Pigs on Parade.
After a six-month sabbatical, Les Newton, MD has returned to the Northwest Hospital staff as a family practice physician. Newton's office will be at the hospital's Lake Forest Park Medical Clinic.
Kristine L. Tryon, CPA and Julie D. Baker have joined Clothier & Head's hospitality industry team. Tryon will serve as director of accounting and auditing. Baker will provide support services to the accounting department.
Posdata has acquired Bellevue's Systems Technical Sales Corp. The acquisition is expected to strengthen Posdata's wireless solutions capabilities. Posdata, based in Gig Harbor, is a value-added integrator of bar code, data collection and point of sale equipment, and has offices in Portland, San Francisco, Irvine, Calif. and Louisville, Ky.
Two Tacoma-area accounting firms, Johnson, Stone and Pagano and Allen Nelson Turner & Co., have merged. They will operate under the name Johnson, Stone and Pagano in Fircrest. The new company has also added Richard E. Carr, CPA to its staff.
Bellevue-based Bogart Golf has revised its senior management and restructured its regional divisions. The company promoted Kass Sells to president, Kelly Curd to senior vice president of marketing/technology and Chris Larson to vice president of marketing. Dave Frogge is the division head for the company's new west division. Frogge previously was the Seattle regional manager. Bogart teaches golfing technique at 14 training centers in Seattle, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver and Atlanta, with plans for five more centers next year

Brian Stapley is a new loan officer at Pride Mortgage. He will be based at Pride's new Seattle location at 1100 Dexter Ave. N. Pride, based in Rhode Island, is licensed to do business in California, Florida, Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island and Washington.
Grey Worldwide Northwest has opened an office in Seattle. Headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, the company is part of Grey Worldwide, with offices in more than 90 countries. Grey Worldwide Northwest's main Seattle client is Starbucks and it works closely with APCO Worldwide Seattle, a public affairs arm of the Grey Global Group. The Seattle office is located with APCO in the Seattle World Trade Center, 2200 Alaskan Way. Jason Rolstone leads the Seattle office and is charged with serving clients and growing the company's Northwest business.
Patricia Baugher and Thane Somerville are new associates at Short Cressman & Burgess. The two new associates were recently admitted to the Washington State Bar. Baugher is a member of the firm's employment practice section and Somerville serves the firm's real estate practice section.
Gov. Gary Locke named his cabinet revenue director, Fred Kiga, to be his chief of staff. Kiga succeeds Paul Isaki. The governor also appointed Sam Sperry as his top policy adviser. Sperry most recently worked for the Seattle public affairs firm of Gogerty Stark Marriott and has held previous positions with the Seattle Times and Post-Intelligencer. Sperry replaces acting policy director Carol Jolly who will return to her position as deputy policy director.
Seattle's Best Coffee and RTG Business Enterprises have reached agreement to develop 16 new SBC cafes in Austin and Waco, Texas. Completion is scheduled for 2006, with the first cafe to open in Austin in January, 2002. The agreement will bring SBC's worldwide cafe commitments to 99.
Safeco Surety has named Mike Peters president. Peters has been with the Redmond-based business since 1968, most recently serving as chief operating officer and senior vice president. Seattle-based Safeco Surety is the eighth largest surety company in the U.S., selling insurance and related financial products.
Matthew Erlich has been selected as the new communications manager for the Washington Public Ports Association. Erlich worked as a senior account executive for Sterling Communications, a Gig Harbor public relations firm focused on high-tech companies. He was also editor of The Peninsula Gateway in Gig Harbor. The Washington Public Ports Association, in its 40th year, represents 76 public port districts throughout the state
