Myles Parrish recently joined Berger/ABAM Engineers’s Seattle office. Parrish’s civil engineering background focuses on building and transportation projects. He performed surveying, material testing and prestressed calculations for bridges during an internship in Japan. He received his bachelor’s in civil and environmental engineering from Utah State University and his master’s in structural engineering from the University of Washington. Prior to joining Berger/ABAM, Parrish worked as research assistant at the University of Washington’s Department of Engineering.
Kate McGowan has joined Berger/ABAM’s headquarters in Federal Way. McGowan’s background focuses on structural engineering for transportation and water resource facilities. She received her bachelor’s in civil engineering from Villanova University in Philadelphia. Prior to joining Berger/ABAM, McGowan worked as assistant bridge inspector intern for an engineering firm.
Robert Hunt has recently joined Berger/ABAM Engineers in Federal Way. Hunt is a professional engineer with 22 years of experience in environmental program management and five years of experience in coastal and water resources engineering design and project management. He received his bachelor’s in oceanography and geology from the University of Washington and in civil engineering from Old Dominion University in Virginia. Hunt also received his master’s in public administration in coastal zone management from the University of Washington. He is currently completing his master’s in coastal and water resources engineering from Old Dominion University.
Walker - Macy of Portland has named Bryan Cole and Mauricio Villarreal as associates. They are part of the team guiding the continued growth and evolution of the Portland-based landscape architecture, urban design and planning firm.
A registered landscape architect, Cole has been part of Walker - Macy’s staff since 1995. He is an experienced project manager who has worked on a diverse range of assignments including site design for Russellville Housing, Reed College’s landscape master plan, the Forest Ecosystem Research Laboratory at Oregon State University, and design of the Mission Interpretive Trail for the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. He is project manager for one of the largest projects currently in the office, Airport Way Landscape Concept Master Plan for the Port of Portland.
Villarreal has 15 years of experience focused on urban design and higher education planning and design projects. A registered landscape architect, he worked for firms in Tokyo and New York prior to joining Walker - Macy in 1995. His project experience includes the South Waterfront Park Extension on the Willamette River in downtown Portland, the Belmont Dairy mixed-use development and the Beaverton City Library.
Harding ESE promoted Khashayar Nikzad to associate structural engineer. He is currently managing structural engineering for the Nooksack Diversion Dam for the city of Bellingham, as well as their bridge ratings. He has contributed 11 technical papers to well known civil engineering journals and conferences and has written two reports on damage assessment of two recent earthquakes for EERI newsletter

Bill Smith is the new president of Noble House Hotels and Resorts. Smith was previously with Silversea Cruises where he was president and COO for the last six and a half years. His experience also includes executive positions with Costa, Commodore, Princess and Sitmar cruise lines.
Joe LaBreche is the new director of sales for the Golf Club at Newcastle. He will oversee all sales efforts including tournaments, clinics and schools, catering and memberships. Most recently, LaBreche served as director of corporate sales at the Elliott Hotel.
Corporate Strategies and Development has added executive search specialists, LuAnn Carlson and Craig MacDonald as senior partners. Both Carlson and MacDonald were previously with Houser Martin Morris. Corporate Strategies and Development is a Seattle-based organizational consulting and search firm serving the Puget Sound business community.
Al Schallop has joined MesoSystems Technology as executive vice president of sales, marketing and customer service. Schallop will head MesoSystems' sales and marketing, as well as the company's customer service functions. Most recently, Schallop was vice president of Americas field operations for Inference Corp., now eGain Communications. MesoSystems, based in Kennewick, is a biotechnology company that has developed and produced a patented system to collect and detect harmful airborne viruses and bacteria.
Anderson ZurMuehlen, & Co. has added two members and promoted staff in its Seattle office. Steve Crandell, CPA, has joined the Seattle office as manager of technology advisory services; and Jennifer Paden has joined as administrative assistant. Leslie Neel was promoted to account manager and Sochie Martinez has been promoted to a para-professional.
Port of Vancouver, U.S.A., commissioner Robert J. Moser has been elected president of the Washington Public Ports Association. Moser was elected to the Port of Vancouver in November 1987, and is currently serving his third, six-year term. Moser will also be president of the three-member port commission for 2002. The association also honored the Port of Chelan County with its Port of the Year Award and Port of Moses Lake executive director David Bailey was honored with a life member award. The Washington Public Ports Association represents 76 public port districts throughout the state.
