DKA recently added three employees. David Durham is a licensed architect with 20 years experience. He is currently working as a project architect on the city of Seattle Park 90-5 Police Support facilities renovation. Rico Quirindongo has rejoined DKA after working three years at HKI&T in San Francisco. He is providing project management assistance on three Seattle School District renovation projects, a 24 multi-family building re-roofing project for King County Housing Authority, and a 10,000-square-foot custom home in Woodinville. Mindy Buchheit has joined DKA as a project administrator and receptionist. Mindy received a BFA in industrial design from the University of Washington in 2000.

DKA’s staff of 18 provides planning, architecture, interior design and design management.

Emick Howard

Thomas

Emick Howard & Seibert, an architecture, interior design and strategic facility planning firm, hired architect Russell Thomas to the design staff.

Thomas will provide 3-D CAD rendering, design, construction documentation and project management services for the firm.

Thomas worked on the rollouts for Barnes & Noble bookstores in Spokane, Portland and Emeryville, Calif. His project list also includes Underwood Office Building, RidgePoint Office Building, GoldenView Terrace Assisted Living Facility in Goldendale, NorthStar Lodge Cancer Treatment Center in Yakima, LaSalle High School and Roche Fruit Co. headquarters.

Cascade Design

Cascade Design Collaborative announced Lorraine Pai recently joined the staff of planners and landscape architects. Pai is a registered landscape architect and most recently worked for the Portico Group. She brings 20 years of design experience with several internationally renowned firms. Her range of work includes residential design, parks, museums and zoo projects.

Ridolfi

Robert Dexter has joined Ridolfi as a senior aquatic scientist, with 20 years experience in studies of the effects of hazardous substances in aquatic ecosystems. Dexter directed efforts to determine ecological risks to aquatic habitats, and has been involved in over 500 Superfund sites throughout the U.S. He is currently on the USEPA Technical Advisory Board for PCB's in the Hudson River.

Sarah Pollock is an environmental scientist with experience in wildlife biology. Her experience as an ecologist includes Hazardous Waste Site Reporting for NOAA in Seattle. She earned her B.S. in Zoology from the University of Washington.

Megan Hilgart is an environmental scientist with experience in field studies, sample collection and interpretation of large data sets, including those used for both human health and ecological risk assessments. She received her B.S. in oceanography from the University of Washington.

City University

City University named Dr. Gwen Hillesheim dean of the school of business and management. Hillesheim most recently was the associate vice president of university outreach and academic initiatives at Walden University in Minneapolis. City University also promoted Melissa Mecham to vice president of admissions and student services. Mecham previously was director of academic operations at the school.

The Hotel Group

Douglas N. Dreher joined the Hotel Group as president. Dreher will be responsible for all of the company's managed and owned properties, new hotel development, acquisitions and strategic planning. Dreher has been with the Hotel Group for the past 13 years, most recently serving as executive vice president. The hotel group owns and manages 25 properties in 10 states and is headquartered in Edmonds, with offices in Spokane, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Nashville.

Merrill Gardens

Robin Buban has been named vice president of operations for Merrill Gardens. Buban will oversee the operations of all 10 Merrill Gardens' communities in Washington. Previously, she was the senior regional director of operations at Alterra Healthcare. Merrill Gardens, based in Seattle, owns and operates 59 assisted-living retirement communities in 14 states.

Union Gospel Mission

Seattle's Union Gospel Mission has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Seattle Foundation. The grant will support the mission's mens shelter program expenses, which include supplying warm meals, blankets and shelter. The grant is paid from the Gordon and Annette Ingham Fund, James F. Hodges Non-designated Fund, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Fund and the Leila A. Russell Fund, created by gifts to the Seattle Foundation.

American Marketing Association

The Puget Sound chapter of the American Marketing Association named Gerry Michael vice president of finance. Michael is currently president of G.A. Michael and Co. In addition, the organization's board named Amy Frampton of Recharge as president-elect.

Washington State University Foundation

John W. Creighton Jr. is this year's recipient of the Weldon B. Gibson Distinguished Volunteer Award from the Washington State University Foundation. The award, named for the late Weldon B. Gibson, the WSU Foundation’s founding chair and a founder of the Stanford Research Institute, recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exemplary service and achievement on behalf of the university and the foundation. Creighton was cited for his work as co-chair of the national steering committee at WSU and for his terms as vice-chair and chair of the WSU Foundation board of trustees. Creighton recently retired from his position as chairman and CEO of United Air Lines and is still a member of the airline's board, where he has served since 1998.
