Hanson, Baker, Ludlow and Drumheller

Magnus Andersson joined the Bellevue law firm of Hanson, Baker, Ludlow and Drumheller as an associate. His practice will be centered on real estate and eminent domain litigation. Most recently, Andersson served as a law clerk to the Honorable Richard B. Sanders, justice of the Supreme Court of Washington in Olympia.

Lane Powell Spears Lubersky

Lane Powell Spears Lubersky named Karin E. Valaas as an associate in its employment group. Valaas, a recent graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, was previously a paralegal specialist in the honors program with the U.S. Department of Justice and is a former legislative intern for Senator Patty Murray.

The Harris

Crystal Hayes was named vice president, senior account executive, Institutional Trust, and Andrew Low was named vice president and client advisory officer by The Harris wealth management group in Seattle. Hayes previously was a trademark license administrator for Boeing. Low previously served as a financial consultant at Smith Barney.

Seattle Human Services Coalition

The Seattle Human Services Coalition presented awards this week to individuals and organizations working to improve the lives of Seattle's elderly, families, children, youth and immigrants. Flo Beaumon, director of Aloha House, was awarded the Mayor's Award for her work with the homeless; the award for Outstanding Program was presented to FareStart, a food service job-training program for disadvantaged individuals; the Innovative Program award winner is the Middle School Re-entry Program, a project from the Center for Career Alternatives; Alan Painter, director of the community services division of the City’s Human Services Department, was named for the Stewardship award; and Paola Maranan, of United Way of King County, is the recipient of the award for Excellence in Advocacy.

ACT Theatre

Robert Egan has been named artistic director at ACT. Egan, who served as associate artistic director at the Seattle Repertory Theatre from 1980-1984, spent the previous 18 years with the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles, most recently as its producing director. He is also the artistic director of the Ojai Playwrights Conference, a new play festival held annually in California.

Washington Department of Transportation

Connie Niva, a commissioner with the Washington State Transportation Commission, is this year's recipient of the HOV Leadership Award presented by the Transportation Research Board's HOV Systems Committee. Niva will be presented with the award during the High Occupancy Vehicle Conference in Seattle next week for her work developing the state's HOV policy.

Wells Fargo

Wells Fargo has based a team of business bankers on the second floor of its banking store at 204 W. Meeker in Kent. The Kent-based team, led by Judi James, Wells Fargo’s South Sound district business banking manager, will manage customers’ business and personal financial services needs, including credit, investments and mortgage. James' staff will consist of business bankers Jennifer Politakis and Ray Ward; John Hwang, business development officer; and Lisa Timpane, business sales associate.

Safeco

Seattle-based Safeco named Kevin Carter leader of corporate diversity initiatives. Carter was previously vice president and director of the western region for DiversityInc.com. Carter will be in charge of corporate diversity strategy and coordinating diversity efforts throughout the company.

Washington State University

Washington State University's Institute for Shock Physics appointed James Asay as associate director. Asay previously directed shock wave research programs at Sandia as deputy director of shock physics applications and deputy for science and technology in its pulsed power sciences center. The WSU Institute for Shock Physics was created in 1997. A new $12.4 million, 32,000 square-foot building for the institute is nearing completion, and will house equipment worth more than $5 million.

digiMine

Paul Bialek has joined digiMine, Inc. as chief financial officer. Most recently, Bialek was chief financial officer and senior vice president of finance and operations for RealNetworks. Bellevue-based digiMine delivers data mining and analytic services via the Internet.

NW Baseball Institute

The Northwest Batting Institute has changed its name to the NW Baseball Institute and has moved to a new facility near the intersection of Fourth Avenue South and South Lander. NWBI offers public batting and pitching cages and provides training and rehabilitation services for baseball and softball players. Shelter Mortgage

Tonie Blevens was promoted from the delightfully titled position of director of first impressions at Shelter Mortgage Co. to marketing and seminar coordinator. The Bellevue home lender also promoted Chik Quintans from loan officer to director of production, and hired: Randy Locke as loan officer, Pam McCollough as an underwriter, Liz Rozbach as a loan consultant, Darren White as a mortgage insurance specialist and Valerie Allen as a loan processing assistant.

Windermere

Liz Getty and Gerry McBarron became sales associates in Windermere Real Estate's Queen Anne office. Getty is new to real estate. McBarron most recently worked as an industry solutions manager with Pivotal Software in Vancouver, B.C.

Marcus & Millichap

Yoshiki Nakamura sold the seven-unit Chantrece Apartments in Seattle at 925 N. 73rd St. to Ralph Moorman for $837,500. Marcus & Millichap broker Daniel Swanson represented Moorman.

Robert R. Gregory sold a triplex at 17707 Linden Ave. N. in Seattle to John Nitkey for $395,000. M&M's David Smith represented Nitkey.
