Western Washington University hired Franklin Roberts as director of academic technology and user services. Roberts was dean of information technology and distance education at Skagit Valley College. He also spent eight years teaching at WWU as an associate professor. The ATUS director oversees the use of technology to support teaching and learning.
GMI, a provider of global market intelligence solutions, promoted Daniel S. Fitzgerald to vice president, Americas. Fitzgerald joined GMI in April as managing director and has 20 years of progressive sales and operational experience. GMI is based on Mercer Island.
Honolulu-based Energy Industries, a developer of renewable and energy efficiency projects, won the Technology Company of the Year Award from the Pacific Technology Foundation. Last year's award went to Sony Corp. In the Pacific Northwest, Energy Industries has offices in Seattle, Spokane, Portland and Boise.
Venture Bank hired Doug Thatcher as a vice president/business banking manager construction and development at the bank's Kent Financial Center. He has 36 years of banking experience. Venture Bank has 18 offices in four Western Washington counties.

The Bank of Oswego in Oregon promoted Angie Peterson, Tim Heine and Jeff Hurder. Peterson will lead the Mercantile Branch. She has eight years experience in the financial industry. Heine and Hurder will work on attracting customers to the bank. Both are vice presidents.
Seattle-based Privatedine.com, an online software company, launched a new Web site at http://www.privatedine.com. The Web site lists 4,000 restaurants nationwide in 17 markets and allows users to check on the availability of private rooms for events. Local restaurants on the site include El Gaucho, Campagne and Ray's Boathouse.
King County's Electronic Court Records Program is one of seven national recipients of the 2007 Innovations in American Government Award. It will receive a $100,000 grant as part of the award. It won for being a cost-effective solution to the paper-based court record storage and retrieval process. The award is given by the Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and Innovation at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government.



Ty-Vest Investments has acquired longtime Shoreline real estate company, Ballinger Realty, which has operated in Shoreline since 1962. The managing member of Ty-Vest, Tyler Johnson, has become the designated broker for Ballinger Realty, which will continue to operate under that name. Ballinger has added Ty-Vest's commercial real estate management portfolio. The firm helps investors buy, sell, lease or manage residential or commercial real estate.
