Bullivant Houser Bailey, a West Coast business and complex litigation law firm, announced Jeanne Loftis has been admitted to the American Board of Trial Advocates. The organization is made up of plaintiffs' and defense attorneys as well as judges. Loftis chairs the products liability practice and has tried more than 30 cases to verdict as first chair attorney.
Law firm Miller Nash hired John Knapp as its newest partner in the Seattle office. Knapp, who specializes in business and bankruptcy law, joins Miller Nash's insolvency practice team. He was previously a principal at Cairncross & Hempelmann.
Susan Sigl has been selected as the new president and CEO of the Washington Technology Industry Association. Sigl has 20 years of experience, co-founded Seapoint Ventures and has worked with Ground Truth, SNAPin Software and Zumobi. The association is one of the largest statewide groups of technology companies, IT departments and individual technology professionals in North America.



Pierce Homer joined Moffatt & Nichol as transportation director. The firm said he will use his 25 years of executive experience in transportation, land use and public-private partnerships to expand the company's practices in those areas. Previously, he was secretary of transportation for the Commonwealth of Virginia, where he led a $4.5 billion annual program that employed 10,500 people, Moffatt & Nichol said. The firm, headquartered in Long Beach, Calif., is a global infrastructure adviser.

Foster Pepper hired Steven Block, a trial lawyer and transportation litigator, to its Litigation, Transportation, Real Estate and Yacht & Aircraft groups. Block spent 12 years in the Seattle office of Betts, Patterson & Mines.
Michael Corwin, assistant vice president for technology services at the University of Texas Arlington, has been named assistant vice president for core systems and applications at Washington State University. Corwin will be project director for a major overhaul and upgrade of WSU's information management systems.
Roger Nyhus, president and CEO of Nyhus Communications, a Seattle-based strategic communications and advocacy firm, has been named Business Leader of the Year by the Greater Seattle Business Association. Nyhus has advised numerous business and government leaders since founding his firm in 1994.
Fluid Market Strategies of Portland announced its director, John Morris, has been appointed to the Regional Technical Forum for 2010. Established in 1999, the RTF is the technical advisory committee to the Northwest Power and Conservation Council, the interstate organization responsible for planning long term electricity needs of the Pacific Northwest.




The Associated General Contractors of America selected 24 companies across the country for Construction Safety Excellence Awards. Two of the winners were from the Northwest, including a first place award to Sicklesteel Cranes of Mount Vernon, and a second place award to Slayden Construction Group of Stayton, Ore.
