Sven Peterson, an associate in Foster Pepper's Health Care Practice Group, has been recognized for his work for Washington Appleseed, winning the organization's 2010 Award for Pro Bono Service. Peterson and Bill Gates, Sr. were recognized for community service. Washington Appleseed advances social justice by pairing volunteer lawyers with community partners.
Seattle Public Schools Superintendent Maria Goodloe-Johnson announced three appointments: Ann Chan is chief talent officer, Howard Pripas is director of employee and labor relations, and Mark Teoh is executive director of strategic planning and partnerships. Chan comes to SPS from Chicago Public Schools where she spent 11 years in human resources. Pripas has been at the University of California in Oakland for the past six years as director of employee relations/labor relations. Teoh was special assistant to the chief academic officer at Boston Public Schools where he supported strategic planning.
Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn appointed a search committee to recommend candidates to direct the Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs following the resignation of Michael Killoren in early October. Killoren left Seattle to serve as the director of Local Arts Agencies and Challenge America Fast Track for the National Endowment for the Arts. James Keblas, director of the Office of Film + Music and a former Seattle Arts Commissioner, will serve as interim director until a permanent replacement is confirmed. Keblas will remain in his position with the Office of Film + Music.

Bellevue Arts Museum appointed Marsha Wolf as director of development. Wolf has 20 years of experience in the nonprofit and arts sector, including with Artist Trust and Pratt Fine Arts Center. She will lead fundraising and membership efforts.
Williams Kastner, a Pacific Northwest law firm, hired Daniel Brown, who will work with the Business Litigation and Indian Law and Gaming practice groups. Brown was a partner at Miller & Nash and Seattle Litigation Practice Group Chair.
Cornish College of the Arts hired Cable Griffith as gallery and exhibitions curator. Griffith was exhibitions director at Kirkland Arts Center. As an artist, he has exhibited locally and nationally. As a curator, he has presented the recent Brian Gills' solo exhibition, NO!, and the upcoming Steambot exhibition at KAC. Cable replaces Jess Van Nostrand, who is returning to independent curating.
Holland America Line promoted Karen Pierce to director, enterprise solutions. Pierce served as manager, compliance programs for six months. She joined Holland America Line in 2009 following 11 years at Washington Mutual/JP Morgan Chase.



Windows, Doors & More consolidated three locations into a 5,000-square-foot showroom in Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood. The company carries Marvin, Andersen, Fleetwood, Milgard, Loewen and other brands of windows and doors.
Monroe's Canyon Creek Cabinet Co. is supplying its products to The Great Indoors, which is a division of Sears. The Great Indoors operations 17 home decor and furniture stores, five located inside Sears stores and 12 in stand-alone buildings
Pat McBride of P.W. McBride Construction and GMS Architectural Group in Bellevue was elected 2011 President of the Building Industry Association of Washington. McBride served as BIAW's treasurer last year, and is on the boards of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties and the National Association of Home Builders. He also is a past member of the Washington State Building Code Council. McBride, AIA, holds a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Idaho.
